Ahoy mateys! Please be enjoyin' the last little bit o' Talk Like A Pirate Day, while I do the least piratical thing o' all, foldin' laundry.

And o' course, it be the birrrthday o' Hermione. A pirate never forgets tha'.

Pokemon Update: Caught a Dugtrio and named it Cedric, to go wth my Diglett named Diggory.

MH Mermaid Update:
Howleen. Don't ask why she has clownfish friends, because I don't have a great answer. They just matched her color scheme. :)
Well, I'm sad that we're not going to get any snow here (WHERE IS MY WINTER, MASSACHUSETTS?) so here are some funny pictures from my Pinterest. Enjoy.

Disclaimer: There is some interesting language under here. And I fucking love Thranduil.

I'm in a very LotR mood lately... )
So, remember that time we kicked ass at Harry Potter Trivia? Well, the same bar had HP trivia again last night, and the same four of us went and did... not as well, but not terribly. We ended in a three-way tie for fourth place (though technically, since there was also a tie for second, and the loser of that ended up with third, we had the third highest score) and then the people running it decided not to make us all play Tetris at 11:30 (THANK YOU) and just gave all three teams gift certificates. It was kind of awesome.

This version was A LOT more difficult than the first, likely because this time they knew the caliber of players they were going to attract. Still, we only got six questions wrong out of 50, which is not too shabby. What killed us was round three, which was solely based on the movies. I haven't seen SS in at least 10 years, and I only saw HBP once (because it was SHIT) and so we got four questions wrong in that round alone.

Questions we missed under here! )

P.S. Thanks to Sporcle, I knew how to spell Scrimgeour and Grindelwald correctly. Thanks Sporcle!
So, I've seriously slacked off wishing Harry Potter characters happy birthday (you should have seen this place in high school) but today is both Harry and JKR's birthday, so I'm going to have a little pic spam party up in here.

Feel free to join in in the comments!

Have a biscuit, Potter! )

Favorite Gryffindor: In all honesty, the answer to this is Ron. But for the last day, I'm going to highlight two Gryffindors who haven't really shown up here much, because it would be a tragedy for me to do this whole thing without bringing them up.
I’m not doing this for you. I’m doing it because — I don’t reckon my dad would’ve wanted them to become killers — just for you. )

Oh, and also: 26 days until the wedding!

Favorite Slytherin. I've had someone in mind for this one for a while too.

He has never wanted to occupy the throne himself. He prefers the back-seat; there is more room to spread out. )

Favorite Hufflepuff: I'm not going to lie to you, LJ, I can name far fewer Hufflepuffs than any of the other houses. Not that I have anything against Hufflepuff, the just don't stand out to me as much I guess. I blame JKR. There was probably a time when I would have answered this with Tonks, but that time was before HPB and DH came out. And the less said about that, the better.

Ernie )

Most Likely to be a Professor: You mean besides Neville, who actually became one? And Remus? And Snape? This is a weird question, because I would definitely have said Hermione, but JKR said she went to work for the Ministry instead. And everyone thought Harry was going to become DADA professor, but he became an Auror, which is nice because it's what he wanted.

It's weird who my mind came up with, but hear me out.

And that's the second time we've saved your life tonight, you two-faced bastard! )

Bravest Student: This is a really unfair question. How can you say that Harry or Hermione or Ron or Luna or Neville or any of the other members of the DA, or students who fought at The Battle of Hogwarts, was more or less brave? And what about students from the past? All of them are brave in their own ways. So, without diminishing any of the other students' acts of bravery, I'm here going to highlight someone who was both brave and unique.

We've been hearing explosions out of their room for ages, but we never thought they were actually making things. We thought they just liked the noise. )

Best Dueler: I almost went with Dumbledore, who famously dueled Grindlewald and also probably a lot of other people, but I finally decided on someone else.

Why would I go looking for somebody who wants to kill me? )

Most Changed since First Year: Well, I mean, there's only really one proper answer to this, isn't there?

And you should have seen their faces when I got in here – they thought I might not be magical enough to come, you see. )

Favorite Couple: Sooo, are we talking in canon, or... Because we all know who my favorite not-ever-mentioned-as-a couple-in-canon-but-they're-totally-a-couple couple is. Still, I'm going to stick to canon (mostly) for this one, because it will allow me to share pictures of two of my favorite characters.
I Believe in Trees! )

Favorite Class: This is vague. My favorite class that we got to see in the books, or what would be my favorite class if i got to actually go to Hogwarts? Because those are not the same, mostly due to the fact that we don't see every moment of every class, nor do we see equal amounts of time in a given class. For instance, Harry took an astronomy OWL, but I can't remember him ever being shown in Astronomy class.
Anyway, I picked a class I like: )

Favorite Quidditch Player: Ah, here is where it starts to get tricky, because I don't want to repeat myself, and, for instance, I'm obviously going to work Ron in here somewhere. But do I list him here, or wait and use him for favorite Gryffindor or as part of my favorite couple? Anyway, after pondering this for FAR longer than I should have, here's who I decided on:

Size is no guarantee of power )

Favorite Professor. This is a tough one, because there are a lot of Hogwarts professors that I like, for a lot of really awesome reasons. But there is one that stands out above the rest, and no, it's not Remus. (I do like Remus, and he was definitely the best DADA professor they ever had, but his tenure was short and he made some questionable decisions, so I went in another direction.)

Who Could It Be? )
Came across this graphic today, it's not important where (it certainly wasn't in an e-mail from Hot Topic) and I thought it might be a neat thing to do on LJ instead of Twitter (which I don't have) or Instagram (which I also don't have).

Post a picture of the following on these days:

So. August 19th, my favorite Hogwarts House:

Poor Ravenclaw. Half the images I found have a raven as their symbol (which I think is from the movies, but it makes no damn sense. Their symbol is a bronze EAGLE, as stated in the books, why did they change that? Gryffindor's symbol isn't a griffin!) and a lot of them have orange or yellow or gold with the blue, instead of the proper bronze. *shakes head*

Anyway, I like Ravenclaw best, and I was sorted into Ravenclaw on Pottermore without even trying (though how anyone could have cheated on that sorting quiz is beyond me). I like to think that I value intelligence and wit and such, and I always like to feel smart and to learn things. I was valedictorian, after all. :D

Go Ravenclaw!!!

Happy birthday to JKR and Harry!!!

(And also Happy Yesterday Birthday to Neville!)
