Project Runway Recap - Dress Heidi for Some Version of the Emmys!

This week's challenge: Create a red carpet look for Heidi to wear to the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. I don't really know what the CAEAs are, but this challenge is basically "create a look that will surely be photographed A LOT, because it will be on Heidi Klum." This was also a one day challenge, which is weird for such a high profile prize.

It should also be noted that Heidi came with Tim on his workroom walkthrough, and was really distressed over some of the things she saw. Therefore, she gave the designers the opportunity to take an additional $100, go back to Mood, and get better fabric if they so chose. It was clearly stated that they would be giving up sewing time to do this, and that they could feel free to ask designers who weren't going back to Mood for their $100. This is going to be semi-important later.

The top looks were Amanda, Kini, and Sean (he of the Mary Poppins fiasco and last week's bandage dress).

Amanda:

This is very Egyptian, and I like it. Zac wasn't crazy about the beading, but Heidi was and her opinion obviously counted for a lot in this challenge. Amanda had immunity anyways, and I don't think she went back to Mood, but I don't know what Heidi said about this during the walkthrough because my satellite kept flickering out during that part.

Kini:

This is classic red carpet glamour, and it was my favorite look. It was also extremely well made, and I have this feeling that Kini is going to go all the way. He's a fast sewer, and the judges seem to really respond to his looks.

Also, UNF:

Absolutely flawless. I would have picked this to win, but Heidi always likes her red carpet dresses a little bit kookier. Which brings me to...

Sean:

This was the winning look. It wasn't my favorite, but it was well done, had great movement, and the judges really loved the color. They also admired Sean's skill in cutting the fringe, which doesn't look that impressive, but apparently is.

The bottom looks were Korina, Mitchell, and Kristine, all of whom went back to Mood. Mitchell annoyed the crap out of me by spending ages complaining to the camera that Sandhya had so much money to spend. This is because Heidi didn't like Sandhya's fabric, so when they had the chance to go back to Mood, and the stipulations were laid out, Sandhya wasted no time in asking other designers who weren't going if she could have their money. This was clearly stated as a thing you could do, but it seemed like no one asked anyone else for money besides Sandhya. They just complained about her ending up with $400 to spend and buying $120/yard fabric. Well, sucks to be you, Mitchell, because Sandhya was safe. And, as Char said (she's my other favorite) "Get that money girl." You tell them Char, it was well within the rules, and Sandhya is playing to win.

Korina:

It's no secret that I don't like Korina, and I so badly wanted her to go home over this. There's absolutely nothing good about it, and her second trip to Mood was completely pointless because she got fabric in the same sad green color that Heidi didn't like about the first dress she made. (Which lead to an adorable moment of Heidi asking Fade, in German, if he knew the German hunting jacket she was referring to <3).

Korina was totally demoralized by Heidi hating her first look, and went off to cry about it even though Heidi (bless her) told her not to cry after the critique. Korina also hit my other Project Runway pet peeve by saying that she "doesn't do evening gowns." This is BULLSHIT because 1. you know at least one challenge on PR is going to be a gown challenge, and 2. YOU DO EVERYTHING ON PR. But Korina was not eliminated, though God only knows why after the judges saw the back:

Ugh. Nothing good, not one good thing, and with such a simple design! Also, the hem. UGH THE HEM.

Mitchell:

Mitchell was eliminated over this, but I fail to see how it's worse than Korina's. I honestly think they kept Korina because they liked her previous work more than Mitchell's, but whatever. It's pretty bad, especially in the back,

because Mitchell had issues with the zipper. And I'm not going to lie, I took a little bit of vindictive pleasure in him being eliminated after he went on and ON about Sandhya. :P

Kristine:

Poor Kristine. She was also eliminated, but this one made me sad because I liked her. She struggled a lot with this challenge though, and her final look was... Well, you can see it. I was surprised that she was eliminated, however. The judges managed to find some positive things to say about this dress, which is more than they were able to do for the other two bottom designers. Again, I wonder how much past performance had to do with this elimination.

Also, the fit was SO OFF:

Bonus! Here's Heidi wearing Sean's dress on the Emmy's red carpet:
