Face Off time! The format of the show changed this week, from teams of two to 'super teams' of four (made up of two teams of two, they didn't split people from their partners). Furthermore, there will be no more immunity, and someone will be eliminated every week from now on.

Super Team Looks! )

Next time, hopefully soon, is witches!
Well, for the millionth time, I'm trying to get re-invested in LJ. I've read all your April entries (all five days of them!) and am going to keep trying. LJ4EVA!

Also, along with about 200,000+ people, I am watching April the Giraffe not give birth (out of the corner of my eye while I work). It's strangely soothing to watch a giraffe, they just seem so chill. I do hope she gets to go outside more often once this baby is finally born (unless she's trolling us all, and there is no baby, which seems possible at this point.) I also keep an eye on the DC Eaglets, which is also soothing. Usually. Pro-tip: Don't put this stream's sound on, then minimize the window, forget it's on, and jump a foot when the eagle shouts at passing blue jays. Fuckers are LOUD.

More Face Off Catching Up! )
So, now that things have calmed down a bit at work, I am going to try to do a big Face Off catch up. But Megan, I hear you saying, why couldn't you do these posts from home? Because I like doing it with two screens, and also Skyrim.

I am also planning to do a post about this event I went to last weekend called ConBust, but I need to get some pictures off my camera first.

Anyway, Face Off Double Post! )
So, my original plan was to combine this episode (not an elimination week) with the next one (an elimination week) and then be all caught up. But then SyFy (CURSE YOU) left the elimination episode off on a CLIFFHANGER without saying who went home, so I'll have to do that with the next two episodes.

Jekyll & Hyde? )
Yikes, I am so far behind with Face Off Posts... I also want to talk some Oscars fashion, but how late is too late to do that?

Anyway, here's Face Off from ages ago!

Yes I'm alone, but I'm alone and free! )
MONSTER HIGH, YOU GUYS, MONSTER HIGH ON FACEOFF.

I kind of wish this challenge had happened during a regular season, so we could have seen like, 12 or 14 looks, but whatever. Also, this post is long AF, and I have far more opinions than usual. :D

You know that all the looks are under here, not just top and botom )
GUYS. The Face Off Monster High episode is on TOMORROW, and I am so excited that I'm considering watching it live (rather than then next day off my DVR, sans commercials.).

Anyway, before we get to that, let's wrap up last week's episode (sorry this post is so late) and first elimination!

Much Better than the Dan Brown Book )

Face Off -

Jan. 27th, 2017 10:53 am
Face Off is back! And it's All Stars! And they're in teams!

MacKenzie started the episode by saying the contestants should forget everything they know about Face Off, and I scoffed, but actually it's running quite differently. The designers are working in teams of two; week one, the teams compete for immunity the next week, and week two the judges eliminate an entire team (this way the season is the same number of episodes, but you can totally suck every other week and not go home).

Melissa is back, as is Jasmine, and Adam, and a bunch of other people from past seasons that I like (Emily! Stella! Rachel!) Plus, February 7th they are doing a MONSTER HIGH CHALLENGE. <3 <3 <3

Yay All-Stars! (P.S. I have those same green scale leggings... I'm cool!)

Challenge number one involved a green screen, and it was AWESOME. )
Today's random TV thought: I love Holiday Baking Championship, but man is Bobby Deen ever obnoxious as a host.

Also, this show always makes me hungry AF. I think my new goal in life is going to be becoming a judge on some kind of baking competition show...
Fresh Off the Boat + Thanksgiving = comedy gold. If you're not watching this show, you should be.
Dancing With the Stars is 100% trying to kill me. I was not emotionally prepared to watch Laurie Hernandez and Tom Bergeron cry.
While watching Dancing With the Stars, I have two questions:

1. How can you have Idina Menzel as guest judge, on Broadway night, and not have a single team do a dance to Wicked or Rent?

2. Why is Julianne Hough always yelling?
So, I've been watching a lot of Are You Afraid of the Dark? recently (because 1. it was/is my absolute favorite show, and 2. thanks to the internet, I can) and I'm pleased to report that most episodes (from the original run, I still dislike the two reboot seasons) hold up very well. The 90's fashion, not so much, but it does make me very nostalgic.

I've seen things like a very fine motorcycle shaped phone, a rainbow of scrunchies and floppy boys' haircuts, and Danny Cooksey wearing not one, but two layers of flannel:

At least he doesn't have his Salute Your Shorts mullet?

The other thing I've realized is that the 'strange' way a lot of the characters pronounce words, which I noticed but could never quite put my finger on as a kid, is due to the fact that 95% of the actors on the show are Canadian.

My favorite episode remains Watchers Woods, and not just because Jewel Staite is in it. Anyone else out there a fan? Or remember any episodes that particularly scared you? Have any favorite or stories you'd like to share? I once watched the one where a witch turns girls into wolves (not particularly scary to me, even at the time) with a friend in middle school who got so scared she had to go home. Oops. (The episode is 'The Tale of the Mystical Mirror', in case you're wondering, featuring Laura Bertram).
Hello! Hamilton won 11 Tonys, so let us celebrate.

This post is much, much later than usual, but I was busy dodging bats and learning complicated card games and doing actual work at work...

Sadly, none of these languages are Elvish or Klingon )
I tried to find something to post about in the last week, but to no avail. So, here we are with the next Face Off recap.

Toyland, Toyland... )

Next week, custom languages and long lost species!
Face Off is back! For those of you new to my journal, Face Off is a show on SyFy that asks makeup artists to meet a challenge each week (similar to Project Runway or America's Next Top Model) and then judges them and eliminates someone. I typically do weekly posts, showing the winning and losing looks, and last season my fav ended up winning. :D

So let us take a look at the first challenge! )
Remember last year at the Globes, when Emma Stone wore a giant butt ruffle and Melissa McCarthy's dress was legit made out of two other ones, and Claire Danes was super excited that her dress was covered in real feathers and Kiera Knightly wore a doily? Well let's see what happened this year!

Lots of pictures under the cut! )

Day 25: Luxury - If you've been on my journal for a while, you will not be surprised to learn that my answer to this is my DVR. I do not know how I ever lived without the ability to pause, rewind, and fast forward through commercials. Is there an Are You Afraid of the Dark marathon on at 2am? DVR. Start watching a TV show and then have to go somewhere? DVR. Friends invite you out for a birthday party on the same night as the Project Runway Finale? DVR. Two things you want to watch on at the same time? DVR. Miss a great play in the baseball game? Rewind the DVR. You can even set it remotely with your phone, if you remember something you want to watch is on. You can program it to record all the occurrings of a show, so you don't have set it every week. It's amazing. TV FOR DAYS.

Let us end this post with a line from How I Met Your Mother, which is about TiVo, but the meaning is the same. "Almighty TiVo, we thank you for all the gifts you have given us. The power to freeze live TV to go take a leak is nothing short of godlike. Let's not forget fast forwarding through commercials."
