Remember last year at the Globes, when Emma Stone wore a giant butt ruffle and Melissa McCarthy's dress was legit made out of two other ones, and Claire Danes was super excited that her dress was covered in real feathers and Kiera Knightly wore a doily? Well let's see what happened this year!

Lots of pictures under the cut! )
So, I missed my annual Talk Like A Pirate Day post because I was busy that day driving to VT, helping set up for my aunt's surprise 60th birthday party, attending said party, and then helping my dad with a fire department project all evening, but we did tell pirate jokes at the party, so there's that.

And now, because I watched them and I want to, here is a Primetime Emmy's Fashion Post.

Gird your loins, there are a TON of pictures under here )

Phew! That took me almost two days to complete, I hope you all love it!
I hope you weren't all sick of dessses and my thoughts on them in the last post, because there are some more I want to talk about that didn't make it into my live blog. These are mostly people who I didn't see on the red carpet, or who I didn't post about in that stream of consciousness I was writing while watching.

God bless the Fug Girls, they never miss anyone )
And now, in the same vein as what I did for the Grammys (but hopefully without the satellite interruption) some of my thoughts (as I had them) on the Oscars red carpet and ceremony.

ETA: I wrote this last night, but I'm not posting it until today because 1. I wanted to add pictures and 2. It badly needed editing, but the Oscars went SO LONG last night that I went to bed instead of doing that. So, here we are.

This is long and full of pictures! )
1. I somehow got behind on reading my friends page, but plan to have read all the way back to the beginning of February before I go to bed tonight. I think I had it all under control before then.

2. Andrew and I finally watched Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing, and I really liked it! I remember seeing that play on stage once, and not loving it, but I think Joss cut it down so it didn't drag as much and made a lot more sense. Also, I really like Alexis Denisof and wish he was in more things.

3. My beautilful Belarusian prince Dmitry won Project Runway All Stars! I knew he could do it. :D
Did you all know that Daniel Radcliffe (aka Radcakes) is a flawless prince? Well, he is.

You're welcome.
This was the Goodreads quote today, and I like to think they did it on purpose, for Robin.

The breaking of so great a thing should make
A greater crack; the round world
Should have shook lions into civil streets,
And citizens to their dens.

-William Shakespeare
I'm a little behind on my 2014 movie posts, and since it's been a week or more since I saw the last one, this is going to be a shorter review than usual.

The next movie on our list: Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure! )

We also recently watched The Skulls (not because it was on our list, just because it was on TV and I like Joshua Jackson) which I do not recommend. Very little in that movie makes any sense, the writing is terrible, and the image of Paul Walker in a coffin (even though he's not actually dead in the movie) is a little unsettling nowadays.

Answer to last Sunday's song: Tomorrow, from Annie. [livejournal.com profile] kaitydid33087 got this one right!
All right, this is my last Golden Globes post. Probably. But you all have to see this, because somehow these people got ZERO screen time on my TV, even though they were nominated, and that's just not right.

Fair warning: There's is unfettered fan-girling under here.

We built the pyramids! )

Answer to last Tuesday's song: Iris, by the Goo Goo Dolls. [livejournal.com profile] becofoz got this one right!
Golden Globes fashion, part two! I hope you weren't all sick of talking about what the celebrities wore last night, because I spotted a few outfits during the actual show last night that we need to discuss.

Under here )

Answer to last Monday's song: Everybody Talks, by Neon Trees. No one guessed this.
Time for some Golden Globes red carpet fashion opinions! Not going to comment on every dress, because we all have lives.

Cut for length )

H'ok, I guess that's all the fashion we're getting for tonight. I don't have the energy to liveblog this whole show, but I encourage you to watch it, because everyone (Meryl) is there to get their drink on. Also, I'll try to get some pictures up here for you all later. :D

ETA: Now with pictures!

Answer to last Sunday's song: We Three Kings. [livejournal.com profile] wizardelfgirl got this one right!
Having my tooth out tomorrow, and even if I don't die of anxiety in the process I'm not making any promises about a post in the aftermath. Just so you know.

In other news, I'm watching the People's Choice Awards for the first time ever... How have I never watched this before? The whole thing is comedy gold. I'm pretty sure Shemar Moore is drunk, Stana Katic hijacked her introduction gig to thank the fans of Castle, the dresses are ridiculous, Sara Bareilles can't sing, and RDJ is Iron Man. Its all amazing.

Answer to last Wednesday's song: Auld Lang Syne. Somehow, no one guessed this.
Things I have learned in the last few days:

1. This is Jim Carrey. (MIND BLOWN).

2. MacBeth was a real person, even though the depiction of him in Shakespeare is wildly fictional.

3. Joanna Garcia is going to play Ariel on Once Upon A Time this coming season. I am 100% behind this, because I like her... Not least of all because she played my favorite character (Sam), teller of my favorite story (Watcher's Woods), on my all time favorite TV show (Are You Afraid of the Dark?)

No song last Sunday. This is going to be a common theme for a little while here, unfortunately. Edisto was super nice, but it was also the land with no internet.
So Andrew and I saw Man of Steel the other night, and in lieu of doing a review (because I'm terrible at keeping my thoughts cohesive during movie reviews) I'm going to talk about something in the movie that I found really impressive.

Minor Spoilers )

Answer to last Thursday's song: Going Away to College, by Blink-182.

Answer to last Friday's song: Sailing for Adventure, from Muppet Treasure Island. No one guessed either of these.

Finally meme time!

Stolen/encouraged by [livejournal.com profile] letsgokomets :)

Some of the pics below the cut are DEFINITELY not safe for work.

List 10 celebs who could get it without asking twice. Include photos! )

Answer to last Wednesday's song: Cabaret, from Cabaret. No one guessed this.
Did anybody else watch Graceland tonight? Does anybody plan to watch it? I tuned it to see Aaron Tveit (he of the CRAZY EYES from Les Mis) and he did not disappoint. I don't have anything else to watch on Thursday nights (or any other night, really, as it's summer) so I think I'll watch it. Anyone care to join me? It was really good! The plot set-up was intriguing, and it was both intense and funny. Plus I think the acting and writing were solid... And then there's this:
You know you want to watch it.

Answer to last Thursday's song: I'm Yours, by Jason Mraz. Kelli got this one right!
We just got back from the movies...

Iron Man Three spoilers )

In conclusion, go see Iron Man Three if you haven't already. And if you have, let's talk about it!

Answer to last Tuesday's song: Marry the Night by Lady Gaga. No one guessed this.
Maybe I'm just grumpy (entirely possible), but Hugo is the longest movie I've ever seen, and (I guess it's meant to be a semi-fantasy world? I don't know) factually inaccurate in a lot of ways that bug the crap out of me. Oh, and all the characters are clinically stupid.

But it does have like, half the cast of Harry Potter in it, so there is that. Although I don't know why everyone in France has British accents, or how Hugo can keep running into that one guy in the huge fucking train station.

P.S. That automaton is SO CREEPY, OMG.

Answer to last Thursday's song: Hallelujah, by Rufus Wainwright. I have, as astutely pointed out by [livejournal.com profile] becofoz the version from the Shrek soundtrack. Abby, [livejournal.com profile] becofoz, and Janeea all got this one! :D
Hey Hollywood?

The next time you think to yourself, "let's update a classic children's book, and by update I mean strip it of everything that made children love it in the first place and instead insert sap and slapstick, and make it into a movie with Jim Carrey!" Do me a favor, and don't.

So, I finally saw Star Trek. The new one. The new movie. You know what I mean.

I have only one complaint, and that was that Zoe Saldana should have had more screen time. I love her, and she was awesome.

Seriously, that's the only thing I could find to complain about. That movie did not go at all where I thought it would, and I was so... entertained! I felt like it was one of the more original things I've seen in years. Which is odd, since it's like the 27th incanation of this world/mythos. It's also pretty hard for movies to surprise me, but this one managed it. Good job all around.

It was also hilarious (especially Bones), and Kirk was kind of cute, and it made me go IS THAT WINONA RYDER?! HOLY SHIT IT TOTALLY IS! so that was fun.

I also know very little about the source material, so that's not a prerequisite for enjoyment. I mean, I know their names, and some of the actors' names, and the big lines, and the split infinitive, and you know, stuff like that. Which reminds me! I appreciate it when movies that are based on something so well known and well loved acknowledge that. It's like, yes, it's a new movie, re-vitializing, breathing new life, whatever, but don't you forget who made you. And they didn't.
