I'm a little behind on my 2014 movie posts, and since it's been a week or more since I saw the last one, this is going to be a shorter review than usual.

The next movie on our list:
-I actually enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would, and more than some of the other movies we've watched. It was funny, intentionally so, and it made a lot more sense than some other time travel movies I've seen in my life. It also gave us the immortal line, "Hey Genghis Khan, want a Twinkie?" which I think we can all agree is awesome.

-A lot of the humor in this movie is surprisingly subtle, which is definitely not what I expected. It didn't rely on being gross, or swearing, or being (too) sexist, and instead did things like show Napoleon falling in love with ice cream and water slides, and having Bill talk to Freud about having a minor Oedipal Complex.

-Keanu Reeves can't act, even when he's just acting like an idiot, but I still kind of love him.

-I was a little disappointed that there weren't more female historical figures involved, but eh.

-Even if the plot had sucked (it didn't) it still would have been fun to watch how people from history got along in the 1980's. They had a bit less culture shock than they probably would have if time travel were actually possible, but at least they didn't all magically speak English. (Seriously, this movie was MUCH more well thought through than I anticipated.)

-I will never not think that pronouncing Socrates as So-Crates isn't funny. Love that they went there.

-I recommend this movie, especially if you're in the mood to be entertained but don't want to think too much. If you can accept time-travelling in a phone booth, then Bill, Ted, and Rufus will take care of the rest for you.

We also recently watched The Skulls (not because it was on our list, just because it was on TV and I like Joshua Jackson) which I do not recommend. Very little in that movie makes any sense, the writing is terrible, and the image of Paul Walker in a coffin (even though he's not actually dead in the movie) is a little unsettling nowadays.

Answer to last Sunday's song: Tomorrow, from Annie. [livejournal.com profile] kaitydid33087 got this one right!

Bill and Ted, fucking LOVE that movie. I used to watch that all the time when I was younger. I pronounce Socrates, So-crates in my head all the time that when I was school I had to be careful that I didn't say it out loud.

It's the obvious joke, but still somehow subtle? I don't know, all I know is that it works and it's hilarious. Probably because everyone thinks it's pronounced So-Crates the first time they see it.

That sounds amusing! I don't think I've ever watched that movie before.

I think I've seen part of the Skulls at some point, but I've not really watched it. I can't imagine it being pleasant to see Paul Walker in a coffin though. :(

If you ever wanted to see Billy the Kid teach Socrates how to hit on women, or Joan of Arc do Aerobics, then you should watch Bill and Ted. :)

Yeah, I realize The Skulls is over 10 years old at this point, but when Paul Walker popped up out of a coffin I was like, "why did you guys choose to show a move with this scene in it?"
