Face Off - Bounty Hunters
Jan. 14th, 2016 01:59 pmFace Off is back! For those of you new to my journal, Face Off is a show on SyFy that asks makeup artists to meet a challenge each week (similar to Project Runway or America's Next Top Model) and then judges them and eliminates someone. I typically do weekly posts, showing the winning and losing looks, and last season my fav ended up winning. :D
Challenge: Work in teams, be inspired by a poster showing a ship and a name, and create an alien bounty hunter.
I don't have an early favorite yet, and I only know their names because they're on the picture captions, so this post may be slightly shorter than usual. ;)
Top Looks
Walter & Kaleb, Maas Rossi:

This look was a bit cartoon-y (I said he would look right at home in The Fifth Element) but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The parameters were just 'make a bounty hunter,' and I really like The Fifth Element, so it's a pretty strong opening look for these two.

Also, there are some really nice, thoughtful details on his armor.
Melissa & Anna, Tolo Ezulon:

I deeply wish SyFy still did close up shots of these looks, you can barely see his face here! I felt that the sculpting on the sides of his head was far superior to his face, and that the line over his eye and his overall look were pretty obvious for a bounty hunter, but the judges really liked this one and it certainly isn't bad, so they were the winners.
Here's a slightly closer shot:
Those sides are pretty damn cool. Melissa, the one with the short hair standing closest to the model, was named the overall winner. (Face Off Pet Peeve: McKenzie (the host) always says, 'as you know, we can only have one winner' whenever they have team challenges. Bullshit, McKenzie, this show could have as many winners as they want, it's not like there's some International Face Off Governing Body forcing you to only pick one winner per episode. Ugh.)
Bottom Looks
Johnny & Ant, Yorek Jess:

As soon as they showed this one, I knew the judges would hate it, and I was right. The fins on the sides of his head look badly pasted on, and the top of his head doesn't flow naturally from his face at all. (Unrelated: How adorable is Ant (the shorter one on the left) in this picture? Maybe this was taken before judging, and that's why he looks so happy. Or maybe it was taken after the elimination, and he's happy to still be on the show?)

It should be no surprise to anyone that two people worked on this, but from the looks of it those two people were in different cities, not standing right next to each other. Also, what is that half-assed plating on his arms? This definitely earned its spot in the bottom.
Yvonne & Greg, Jinxx Barges:

This was the clear loser (sorry guys) with really obvious edges, a face that didn't look like it was attached to the cowl, a boring paint job, and a disturbing lack of symmetry.

It is really bad. And lumpy.
The judges decided that they hated the nose the most though, and that was Greg's work, so he got sent home. Farewell Greg, we hardly knew ye.
