Hello! Hamilton won 11 Tonys, so let us celebrate.

So, we started watching Turn, because I was interested in it, and then [livejournal.com profile] amyofaquitaine said it was good (and she has excellent taste) and now I'm hooked. I've only seen the first three episodes, because of course it premiered during my big move/apartment hunt/new job, so I couldn't watch it, but then AMC showed all the episodes on Memorial Day and we DVR-ed them so I can catch up.

So far, I think Ben is the prettiest, I kind of ship him with Caleb, and I LOVE Caleb. OMG, he's just so amusing and unapologetic and brave and honorable and he sang Spanish Ladies and I want to squish him. I also went on Wikipedia and looked up all the main characters to see if they were going to survive this mess (especially my precious Caleb) or not, because that's just how I roll. I don't know any show spoilers though (let's please keep it that way, too) and since they're already playing a little loose with the facts, who knows what will happen?

My biggest question so far, however, is what the hell is so special about Anna that everyone on this show wants to bang her? Abe, Simcoe, Selah (the only one who should be doing so) and even kind of Caleb. She's pretty, I guess, and brave to be running a tavern alone and spying and stuff, and she sure doesn't put up with Caleb's crap, but I'm just not on the Anna wagon. I feel like the show is pushing her hard as the strong female lead, but hasn't really let her do anything remarkable. I am presently team Mary, because I feel very bad for her and I just KNOW she's going to get a shit deal. That's the only way this can possibly play out. I have probably said, "poor Mary" about a dozen times in three episodes.

On the other hand, these two are clearly in love. <3
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE!!!

And now I'm off to a lacrosse game. Yes, you read that right. Lacrosse.

Today is the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci, and Emma Watson.

To be perfectly honest, I prefer da Vinci. He's a better actor, and one of the two Renaissance artists who I feel is better known as an artist than a Ninja Turtle.

xkcd has a slightly different opinion. :)

But happy birthday to them both!

Today is the birthday of Hans Christen Anderson.

Mr. Anderson gave us such tales as The Ugly Ducking and The Little Match Girl. Oh, yes, and THE LITTLE MERMAID. (Though his version doesn't end quite as well as the Disney one.) Still, he made up the story in the first place, so without him the Disney movie that I love so much wouldn't exist at all.

Thus, HAPPY BIRTHDAY HANS!
