I really should make a Memories section for all my posts about fanfiction... Maybe tomorrow when I'm not doing anything?

Anyways, Hermione. I have some issues with her in fanfiction.

1. I can't read most HP femmeslash because for some reason IT ALL INVOLVES HERMIONE, and I just see her as 1.straight and 2.with Ron, and I simply don't want to read about her and GinnyLavanderParvatiLunaTonksEtc.

2. I don't know how I feel about people, especially Ron, calling her 'Mione. On the one hand, she really needs a nickname because Hermione just has way too many syllables, and 'Mione is far better than Hermy, (ACK. Though my personal favorite is still Herm-o-ninny.) and actually I kind of like the way it sounds, but on the other hand, would she really allow anyone to call her that? It just doesn't seem to fit her character.

3. Which brings me to point number 3: Maybe I'm just on the wrong sites, but people seem to be incapable of wririntg Ron and/or Hermione in character. Yes, Hermione is a bookish one, but she has another side (see: stealing supplies from Snape, punching Draco, freeing a hippogriff and a Sirius, etc.) and Ron knows about it. So why should he be suprised that she's not a prude? (See: Viktor is more of a "physical being.") And while I don't believe that Hermione is a uptight virgin, nor is she a slut. Is there no happy medium?

Hermione is bossy. She is brilliant and well read and follows most rules. She respects authority and has her own opinon and is a bit of a show-off and loves Ron and Harry. Please, for the love of God and J.K. Rowling, STOP BUTCHERING HERMIONE'S CHARACTER.

Thank You and Goodnight.

As a regular actress of Hermione Granger, I feel the need to respond to this.

1. While I understand that femslash would involve Hermione because she is the number one female character, I heartily agree. I don't mind slash, but I do mind noncanon slash and we know Hermione is too attracted to Ron for anyone else - male or female - to come in front of that.

2. See I think that at first she might not appreciate being called Mione, but Ron being who he is would probably continue calling her that anyway, because he is too lazy to say her full name and he knows it annoys her. Hermione would probably then just ignore him and accept it, and I bet as she lightens up and becomes fonder and fonder of Ron, the name would probably grow on her.

3. Also agree. But, as one who has played her in front of crowds of children, it is very easy to get caught up in the nose-to-the-grindstone-prude because it's what in her character makes her funny. Fanfiction should try to make her more complex, yes, but sometimes it's easy to get carried away. I would frequently have to stop and remind myself that she DOES have the ability to laugh at things and be like Harry and Ron to a very small extent, but that's hard because she gets her humor through yelling at Ron.

But yes. And lastly, my dear, as long as there is fanfiction, there will be character butchering. It's just a law of the universe. Sort of like Global Warming.

I do, actually, but it's all been Marauders stuff. I've never tried to write Hermione... Maybe I should.

I love you Sarah. I also love your Mione theory. Ron would so totally do that.

I know. Stupid fanfic writers who kill characterizations are EVERYWHERE. But that doesn't mean I have to like it. :)
