Since I currently have our record of What Went Down, I feel it's my duty to post at least some version of it. I left out most of the inside jokes and funny things, because they'll be better to hear than read, but I put in all the main events.
Pregame Show:
I have Sarah and Janeea over Tuesday night so we can just get up and go Wednesday morning. We clean out the truck and go shopping for food. Anxiety-fueled hilarity ensues.
Day One:
We drive. A lot. We pick up Matt. We drive some more. We don't get lost. Sarah drives through Cleveland (freaking out the whole time). We make lists of Star Wars characters. We make lists of Harry Potter characters. We sing. Loudly. Badly. Musicals. We explain Once on This Island to Matt. We eat. We drive even more. We pay tolls. We look for license plates. We drive even more. Finally, we get to Chicago. YAY!!!
Day Two:
We go into Chicago. We go to the Sears Tower Skydeck, which is 1353 feet up. Matt is afraid of heights. I attempt to lean my forehead against the glass ala Ferris Bueller. I am hindered by railings and small children, but whatever. We can see A LOT. We learn that the Sears Tower is the tallest building in the United States. And it has bigger antennas than the tallest building in the world, which is in Tailand or Taiwan or something. Overcompensating/phallic jokes get made.
Me: Who cares about antennas?
Sarah: Men.
We go to Millenium Park for the afternoon. It is pretty. There are flowers and bunnies and big strange metal sculptures and a huge version of Music in the Park and a lovely breeze from the water. (But really, we're only killing time before the main attraction of the day...)
WICKED!!! Oh, and it was.
Our seats: are amazing. The show: is green and bright and loud and we can see and they can sing and we love the set and the costumes, the people and the story, and Fiyero wears VERY TIGHT pants the entire play. And it is good. Very very very good. Galinda, despite her best attempts, does not explode. Elphaba flies. Did I mention the tight pants?
YAY WICKED!!!!!!!!!
Day Three:
We go to the zoo. It rains, and the animals are scared of the loud-ass air show, so they don't want to come out and play. But we see lions and tigers and bears, no joke, and gorillas and monkeys and spiders with NO GLASS WTF and lots of other furry/feathery/scaly things.
At night, we go to the Chicago Institute of Art, because it's free after five. We see stuff by Picasso and O'Keefe, Monet, Dali, Van Gogh, the painting from Ferris Bueller, American Gothic, that French guy who does the angels that Janeea likes, suits of armor, big swords, and lots of archiological/anthropological stuff that Matt likes. There are also things we're allowed to touch, and a whole huge gallery of miniature rooms. So cool. We are very very happy.
We try to find an Indian restaurant for dinner, but we end up at Sinbad's Juice Bar, and it is fucking amazing. On the way back, we see incredibly hot gay boys on the subway. I heart real life slash.
Day Four:
We go back to the zoo, and yay, more animals are out today! We see giraffes, and watch them swallow. That is a sight. I see Remus :) There are still no meerkats, and Janeea is sad, but there are polar bears and rhinos and birds that we missed the first day, so it's ok. We sing Hakuna Matata at the warthogs.
We go to The Disney Store and Virgin Records. Janeea and I are in Heaven.
We go to Navy Pier and go on a HUGE FUCKING FERRIS WHEEL. Matt is still afraid of heights. Then we play mini-golf in the pouring rain. We get wet. Very very wet. But it's ok, because we have fun and don't count strokes and Matt's ball goes in the water at least three times and sometimes we get holes in one and it is good.
We eat dinner at Bubba Gump's, for Janeea's first time, and it is delicious. Coconut shrimp is to die for. On the way home Sarah and I dance on the subway while singing Santa Fe. We even swing around the poles. We are musical dorks. Later, we try to watch The Producers but Janeea's computer hates us so we can't.
Day Five:
We pack up, check out, and drive to The Field Museum because King Tut is there. Unfortunately, because we have to leave at three in order to get Matt back in time for his bus, we can't see King Tut. But it's ok because we see Sue (the largest, most complete, and best preserved T-Rex ever found) and lots of other dinosaur skeletons, and the man-eating lions from The Ghost in the Darkness with Val Kilmer (or what's left of them anyways) and tons of other shiny and interesting things.
We drive home. All through the night. Janeea drinks lots of coffee, and is consequently a little bit insane. We sing. Very loudly. Very badly. Wicked. Janeea and Sarah explain Les Miserables to me. I explain Ragtime to them. They make the mistake of letting me drive. I miss Cleveland. Don't even ask me how. We getlost a little bit off course. We drive. We drop off Matt. We drive some more. And more. Finally we arrive back in Rutland. We have less money, new jokes, better stories, new obsessions, and a wonderful experience.
OMG YAY CHICAGO.
For Sarah, Janeea, and Maybe Matt:
Here's all the links (that I can remember) that I promised to post:
Accio Bananas
The H/D one where Harry has a cold
All the Sheafrotherdon stuff I've read, which I highly recommend
V for Vendetta in 15 Minutes (so that my icon makes sense to Sarah) </a?
