Project Runway finale tonight! What am I going to post about on Thursdays now?

I honestly don't care who wins, since my favorite is out, but I do hope that it's not Stanley. Nothing he's done has ever really impressed me, and it's also usually bored me to tears. Both Michelle and Patricia have had their ups and downs for me, but at least they were never boring. I mean, i don't hate Stanley as much as I LOATHED Gretchen, but I don't think he deserves to win. It will be ironic if Michelle, she of the almost getting voted out, wins, and I would love to see Patricia on top, just so she could rub it in the face of everyone who doubted her. So, those are my thoughts, and now, time for the show!

-Last week on PR, Stanley was boring, Michelle was 'tricky', Patricia was Seussical, Daniel was out, and Megan was sad.

-UGH. This sickly sweet "I'm so glad I'm here with you two" scene is making me want to barf. Michelle, you totally hate Patricia, and you never have anything good to say about Stanley either. And it's mostly mutual (from Stanley at least), so STOP PRETENDING OTHERWISE.

-Ah, they still have their sewing partners. That's nice, because it means I get to see more of Amanda and Michelle's adorable BFF-ness.

-Tim has surprised them with a $500 trip to Mood. As far as finale surprises go, this is a pretty good one.

-Stanley is editing his stuff (literally, making it all shorter, since the judges said he needed to sexify his looks), Michelle is going simpler with her accessories (which is exactly what she needs to do), and Patricia is trying to make her collection more cohesive. I'm frankly a little surprised that everyone is doing exactly what the judges told them to, and no one is rebelling.

-OMFG Layana, SHUT UP. She's not even in this any more, and she's still criticizing everything Patricia does.

-In other news, Swatch is still adorable.

-Apparently Stanley enlisted "little Russian women" to hand bead some of his looks. I don't think he's kidding.

-The makeup artist is talking, and I understand... about 25% of what he's saying. I honestly think he's making most of it up, and throwing in brand names wherever possible.

-Short version of the last five minutes: Everyone has too much work to do in too little time. Also, Amanda was hammering.

-DMITRI IS ON! DMITRI IS ON, OMFG! OH MY GOD HE MADE HEIDI A DRESS AND IT IS AMAZING. I still love him, and his accent, and his hair, and every damn thing about him. I especially like the clothes he makes! The dress he is putting on Heidi is SO GOOD OMG. Still don't know if he's gay or European, but that's neither here nor there. I follow him on Facebook, and almost everything I've seen from him has been great. GO DMITRI!

-Still hammering, still too much work and too little time. Have I ever mentioned that this show REALLY does not need to be two hours long? Especially not this late in the season.

-Patricia has... Added even more horsehair into her collection, particularly on top of the models' heads. Whatever, the judges seemed to like the Cindy Lou Who look.

-Tim is advising Michelle to ditch the compass, and I know that Nina was all hung up on it, but I think it adds a really different touch. Tim asks why a woman with the latest technology would have a compass... Has he not heard of hipsters? Antiquated tech is so hot right now.

-Stanley's collection, in Tim's opinion, came from a vintage store... And he's not wrong. It's also still looking very matronly there, Stanley.

-Aaaaaand Patricia is a hot mess. She can't find pieces of her collection, or some of the fabric she bought, Tim snarks about her organizational skills (lovingly), and she seems to have a ton of work to do. It's still not as cohesive as it could be, and I'm not even sure that it's as cohesive as she keeps telling me it is.

-Based on Tim's visit, Michelle is definitely going to win. He's not a judge though, so who knows?

-Woo! Patricia found her scarves! We can all breathe easier now.

-Amanda is helping Patricia, for some reason. I kind of really wish Amanda had done better; I like her.

-I think, at this preliminary stage, that I like Michelle's collection the best. There's a lot that I like about Patricia's collection too, but it's really not cohesive (unless 'weird-ass' counts as a connection).

-Michelle is annoyed by the lack of preparedness in her competition, but is still willing to bring them coffee (since she's pretty much done and they're still scrambling.) Honestly, I think she just likes to complain, because who gets annoyed that the people you're up against are sucking? Don't you want to do better than them? (Maybe she wants to beat a worthy opponent  Not have a hollow victory? Whatever, you still get the prize, hollowly or not!)

-The sewing helpers are leaving, and there are many tears. However, Tim replaces them with friends and family of the designers! There are more tears.

-Holy crow, Patricia has kids? Why were they not in her home visit? (They're named Margeaux and Gabriel. Oy.)

-It's good that Richard was ushered out before Stanley's partner came in. There could have been a throwdown.

-Guest judge is Michael Kors. Yay! I used to really dislike Michael, but he's grown on me over the years. Like a fungus.

-Patricia has solved the 'unpatchable holes in her leather pants' problem by making more holes in them, so it looks purposeful. This is such an obvious solution that I don't know how it too her so long to think of it.

-Stanley is really far behind and nothing is finished. He's freaking out, and Michelle is helping him. Still not entirely sure why, but it's kind of sweet.

-Michelle, honey, what the FUCK is on your head?

-Stanley is still sewing stuff together. Like, all his stuff. Just saying.

-By contrast, Michelle is SUPER organized, with Polaroids of her looks on the rack over each garment. She's just chilling out, chatting with the models while Stanley runs around sewing like a designer with his head cut off, flinging pins and heels everywhere.

-Tim says that in 11 seasons of Project Runway, he's never seen four dressers sewing four garments right there in the dressing area at Lincoln Center, but that's 100% what Stanley is doing right now. Tim tells him to do whatever he needs to do to get clothes on the models so they don't have to go down the runway naked. This is hilarious to me, not going to lie. (I feel a little bit bad for him, but not much. He knew that this was coming; I don't know why he's not more ready.)

-Aww, look at all the past PR designers in the audience! There's Michael and Laura and Tu and Kate and Mondo! I wish Heidi had had one of them design her look, instead of wearing... whatever the fuck that stained glass pantsuit.... thing is that she has on.

-Michelle is up first!
--1. Don't like it.
--2. Like this one slightly better. It's very bright.
--3. Very chic, I dig it. (ETA: After seeing the picture, I don't dig it quite as much. It looks like she has it on backwards...)
--4. Looks like a rag, but it's also kind of cute? I don't even know anymore.
--5. UGH. Also, the hat? UGH.
--6. Here's the steampunk housewife look we saw before, but I do kind of like it. I miss the compass though. :(
--7. It's a great coat, still, and it does look better with fewer accessories. (Though it still has some, which is good.)
--8. Nice, though a little more boring than her other stuff.
--9. Wolf sweater. I still think it's an ugly and weird look, but the judges like it.
--10. Ooh, I like that color and the shape, but um... should it have a shirt under it? She's showing a lot of skin.
--11. Same ugly hat, and the sweater is weird. Maybe it's cool/weird though?
--12. Good look to have saved for last! The red pops, and I think the open front works better in dress form. I like it.

-I do feel that this was a strong collection, so she's definitely still got a chance.

-Patricia is next! Good thing, because Stanley is still frantically sewing. She says this collection is dedicated to trees (WTF?) She also spoke in whatever Native American language she speaks. That was cool, but probably lost on the crowd. Maybe she was telling her kids and parents that everyone else's dresses suck.
--1. I had no idea there was any pink in her collection. It's... ok, but it looks too much like a nightgown in that fabric.
--2. It's so weird, but my initial reaction was, "Ohh I like that!"
--3. The holey leather pants came out good! I like this look a lot.
--4. Ooh, I like this one too! Patricia does better when she tones down the weird just a little.
--5. The red dress is pretty, but so plain and boring by comparison with everything else.
--6. This dress is super cute! This is the one Tim helped her with, and his input was definitely an improvement.
--7. Eh, I don't like this one. Or the horsehair on her head.
--8. WHO HAT WHO HAT WHO HAT. I don't even know what the outfit looks like, all I can see is the poof on her head.
--9. This is the dress we saw before, toned down a bit. I still think it's pretty, but it also looks a little dull in comparison.
--10. Much less lumberjack-y than it was previously. I still love that shirt.
--11. Fringe vest. Somehow it looks better than the first time? I can't wait to her what Michael says about this.
--12. Still like the shiny blue dress, still distracted by the Who hat

-Overall, Patricia's collection was actually really kick ass, and more cohesive than previously... While still having a few pieces that don't match anything at all.

-Ok, Stanley, showtime! Are all your models wearing clothing?
--1. Boring. All black, and all blah. (ETA: I do quite like the coat though).
--2.That gold dress doesn't work any better as a shirt.
--3. That makes her shoulders looks really wide. She looks like a linebacker.
--4. This one is ok, but guess what? It's BORING.
--5. Same beetle dress as before, and I still don't like it.
--6. Is that a coat or a dress? It's less boring, though it too makes the model look twice as big as she really is.
--7. Shiny! This is my favorite so far. In fact, I would buy this dress.
--8. This one is nice too, though I'm not crazy about the boring beige color.
--9. This one isn't finished, and it shows. Andrew says it looks like she just wrapped a shower curtain around herself, and he's totally right.
--10. Ick. I don't like the colors, or the drape-y coat thing.
--11. The Russian ladies' beading is more interesting than his other stuff, but still ugly.
--12. The red one is the best, though the colors don't totally match. And yet, it's still kind of boring!

-Almost every single look makes the models appear old, fat, or both. I do not care for your collection, Stanley, I do not care for it at all.

-And now, a half hour of judging! I'm really not going to bother too much with this, because I just don't care. Cut to the chase already.

-Nina loves the bleeding heart sweater, which is hilarious because Tim said that look seemed like it came from a different collection and should be taken out. Then Michelle said she was going to choose to ignore some of his constructive criticism and leave it in. I guess she was right!

-Overall, with a few caveats, the judges like Michelle's collection.

-Good Lord, Patricia made all her own EVERYTHING. She made her own textiles, dyes, even her own sequins, for God's sake.

-Michael likes Patricia's collection, though he did say it was like, "the art teacher's on an acid trip."

-Heidi says the crowd lit up when Patricia's collection came out, which is true, though it's probably because they've never seen anything as cracked out before.

-Patricia's critique is all basically, "you're weird and crazy but also talented and it's unique and sometimes it really works." Also, she has spectacular artistry.

-Really, Michael, REALLY? He likes Stanley's shower curtain dress.

-Oh Michael, you still slay me: "That ring looks like an appetite suppressant. I went to a party but I can't lift my hand."

-The judges, rightly, say that Stanley's collection still looks old and unsexy. Heidi notices some 'quick sewing' (NO SHIT) and they don't like the one red dress that I do like. I really don't think he's going to win, he had a much more negative critique overall than the other two.

-Michelle's confidence might just give her the edge over Patricia.

-Oh my GOD, they're going to actually talk me to death. GET ON WITH IT.

-They're debating about the uniqueness of Patricia's designs, vs. the relative unwearable-ness of them. Michelle's stuff is great while also being more relatable  but it's not quite as interesting. Stanley is right out, and after this commercial we will see who the winner is!

-Stanley is out, and with very little fanfare. I'm not sad.

-WHO IS THE WINNER?! HEIDI, SPIT IT OUT!

-IT'S MICHELLE!!! I totally saw that coming. Patricia did so well though! She's not going away, I'm pretty sure.

-I'm happy for Michelle, even though I didn't always love her. She did work hard, and she took maximum advantage of her second chance. She deserved this, despite her attitude not always being the best.

-Aww, and Michelle's model wins a fashion spread and $25,000. Which is great for her, considering she didn't actually do anything other than somehow be paired with Michelle. Woo!

-Next week they're doing a drama-filled reunion special. I don't know if I will watch that; it's just going to be an hour or two of the bitchy crap I usually tune out anyway.

Answer to last Thursday's song: Big Girls Don't Cry, by Fergie. Janeea got this one right! I just plain don't like Fergie, that's pretty much the story behind this one. It's also kind of whiny.

Hrm, I'm less excited about Michelle's stuff than I was expecting too be. I love the steampunk look, but so much of it seems a bit out there for me. Of course, this is fashion and that's always more over the top.

I like Patricia soooo much more than I was expecting to! There are some things that I don't like (the Who hats, that yellow tie die looking thing, etc), but there are things that I genuinely like. I'd be most likely to wear some of that. I love the floaty blue shirt, the velvet shirt (though you wouldn't catch me in the pants paired with it), etc.

Stanley's stuff is so dull. o_O

I'm happy for Michelle! I also would have been happy for Patricia (which is so funny because so much of what she did earlier on I didn't like). I'm glad Stanley didn't get it though because his collection ended up being so dull!

I was so excited for actually seeing the finale since I've never seen a full season, but I ended up missing it. *facepalm* lol Your liveblog to the rescue though, so I still get to "see" it! xD

Yeah, her stuff is weird, but at least it's not boring! And I feel pretty much exactly the same about Patricia. Some of it is weird as all get out, but some of it is stuff I could totally see myself buying.

I'm glad that you like the liveblog! I mostly started doing them for my own amusement, but it's so nice to know that other people are getting something out of them. :D (Also, if you feel the driving need too see the runway or anything, all the full episodes are here: http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway/video/full-episodes)

I really like Michelle's collection. The Wolf sweater pattern is super cool, my favorite look was boring number 8, and clearly the sweater from look 11 is for bleeding heart (hipster) liberals. I also really liked the first and last looks, which means she organized her show very well. Just saying. Overall, very cohesive, clear sense of who she is as a designer, very hipster/steampunk/blade runner-ish(?). However, it is completely a winter collection. Colors, fabric choices, layering, patterns. I guess they didn't have to design for spring? Would've been smart if she had though.

Based on the pictures alone, for me, Patricia's collection is beyond awful. It's hideous. What isn't old-ladyish is so garish and costumey I just. I. I am at a loss for words... The most commercial piece and only salable piece in the collection is look 9. And i like the photo of the fabric swatch for look 7 but the scale is off, it should have been a little smaller. Oh and look 1 clearly must be from her sleepwear collection. In that color, with that neckline, AND an empire waist? Clearly a babydoll nightie. And that print could have been so pretty, even if the only thing she did was lower the waist line. Seriously, drop that to natural waist and my opinion would be significantly different. Oh, and someone should have told her the secret to a cohesive collection is having a specific color palette of about 5-7 colors and 2-4 prints. Period. That's probably too generous to be honest. Patricia had no less than 10 colors and 6 prints. Come on now, there were only 12 looks. Michelle exceeded the number of colors but many of them were complimentary neutral tones so it still felt cohesive.

I very nearly just fell asleep looking at Stanley's collection. But it was cohesive. He seemingly got the memo about having a limited color palette (though his is a bit too limited, like, by a lot) and his dresses even share some of the same detailing which is bonus point worthy for looking like a collection a seasoned pro would put down the runway. There were some very noticeable fit and construction issues even in the photos. Total bad sign. The beetle dress didn't look like it should be part of his collection, partly because it photographed as a gray that doesn't appear anywhere else and... Something else? I can't quite put my finger on it. Oh, and where did that red dress come from? Why was there not red anywhere else in the collection? Not even a scarf or jewelery. And that shade would have gone with every single look too! Well, except look 10 which also doesn't fit. Pretty fabric, on trend with the galaxy print, but a bit of a sore thumb here. He could have pulled the purples from this look and used it with the other looks too. Missed opportunities, Stanley! I liked looks 2 and 11 the most even though I wish the peplum was just a little bit shorter in look 2, say 1-1.5", and there seems to be something wrong with the back of the collar on look 11.

I reviewed these as I read your post, so now for addenda.
-The bleeding heart sweater totally ties in with the feel of the wolf sweater. It works.
-Michael nailed the aesthetic of Patricia's collection: Art teacher acid trip. Completely agree.
-I thought the red dress was one with a lot of fit issues. Super unflattering, or maybe it should have been worn by a different model?

Side note: the outfit Michelle wore for her show made me sad. The fascinator (sp?) was so 2 years ago and the proportions of the skirt with that shirt is totally off. Much too long. But I like how the colors, shoes, and tights fit in with her collection.

P.S. It seems like all the pop songs you use for you titles are ones you don't like. What's up with that?

I did like Michelle's, and I did get the hipster vibe too. They were specifically told to design a fall collection, because they show at New York fashion week which I guess is in the fall? Or is supposed to be fall clothes? But anyway, it was supposed to be fall fashion, so she seems to have nailed that aspect too!

You're so right about Patricia's nightgown look, and she definitely had the most problem with cohesion. I also do think that part of her non-winning was the lack of commerciality (is that even a word? It is now!) of her collection.

And Stanley's was boring and rushed, which was clear in the fit and construction issues you saw.

You obviously know a lot more about fashion than me... We should totally figure out a way to watch this show together sometime. It would be nice to compare opinions in real time. :)

And finally, last week was another themed week of song quotes: songs I do not like, but somehow know all the words to. I had mentioned that in my post last... Sunday? I think? But you might not have seen it. It's neat that you picked up on the theme anyway though! I clearly met my goal. :P
