-Roy and Laura miss Eddie, but I kind of don't.
-Laney is sad from being in the bottom, and also homesick. Laney, power through! Don't falter now, so close to the end!!!
-They're in a park with like, a Stonehenge recreation, and McKenzie is going on about symbols on stones in different cultures.
-This week they have to make dark elves, which are apparently a thing from Norse mythology. This is news to me.
-This challenge has something to do with promoting the new Thor movie, obviously. I guess vikings had symbols that they believed gave them certain attributes/special powers, and one of those symbols is on each rock. The challenge is to pick a symbol/rune (not knowing what each of them represents beforehand) and make a version of a dark elf based on that rune.
-I want Laney's tights. I also want to be able to wear tights.
-Laney picked immortality, Tate regeneration, Roy psychic powers, Miranda chaos, and Laura occult abilities, aka magic.
-Laura is pronouncing rune with two syllables, and it distracted me from what she's designing.
-Miranda claims she's done elves twice before, so she wants to do something different. She's going with a Mayan warrior god dude, because apparently the Norse symbol she chose looked Mayan to her.
-Laney's immortal will be young, and covered in gold bone armor made of all the people he's killed. Lovely.
-Roy is doing a psychic power user with an enlarged head. This has been done. He also wants to devolve it, whatever that means.
-Tate is going with a female elf queen, who 'regenerates' by mating with the strongest of her male subjects. She's also going to have some kind of burned looking snake skin, another symbol of regeneration. I was thinking of 'lizards who regrow limbs', myself, so I support the snake idea.
-Laura knows a lot about dark elves, and she's worried that that might actually hinder her in this challenge.
-Laney is not doing so hot. COME THE FUCK ON, LANEY, PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER. Oh God, now she's crying in the bathroom. DAMN IT, LANEY. I love you, please don't lose it now, and please stop crying. :(
-Roy has succeeded where Tate could not, and talked Laney out of the bathroom. The amount of positive responses she got before and after her issues warms my heart.
-At the walk through, Laura is going on about integrating runes into her look, Miranda's is deemed 'interesting', Tate is told that his color scheme looks good, Roy needs to keep his face a light shade, and Laney's needs to look less human.
-Laura is concerned that her look is too traditional, and might therefore be boring, so she's leaving time to experiment tomorrow... Then she wakes up to a letter from Laney saying that she quit. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :( :( :( Motherfucker, Laney, you were the last Rookie left, there are only five of you remaining, HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO US? I mean, I understand what it's like to be homesick and all, but damn, girl, don't quit!
-Everyone is trying to be callous, even though they all totally miss Laney. Especially Tate, who I think has a crush on her. Also, no one knows if this means that there will or won't be an elimination this week.
-Aww, Tate is adorably torn up over Laney's departure. He says her unfinished work sitting there is like a headstone. :( I need a bigger frowny face.
-Laura's making scars in the freezer, Miranda is a little lost and doesn't like what she's doing (so what else is new), Roy's already painting, and shit son, Miranda is sooooo behind that she is fucked. She's going to have to resort to latex, which is bad I guess.
-Miranda is having her model help her open her mold. This is new, since they're usually long opened by the time the models show up. And now she's having him help her wash and carry her mold, but at least she has the decency to feel bad about it.
-Roy's looks like an alien to me, especially with the big head, and Laura's frozen scars didn't come out right, so she's gong to have to paint the details on.
-I didn't quite follow all the shit Tate did doing to his model to get the burned skin effect, but it looks freaky and cool.
-Miranda's model is painting himself. This is not at all hilarious. She literally said "wait to paint your hand, because you might need to use it." She is worried (rightly) that she might not have a finished look to send on stage, but at least she's refusing to give up (unlike SOME PEOPLE)... and there's always the chance that Laney's departure might mean no elimination tonight.
-Good God, Miranda's model is cutting his own costume now... Because Miranda is too busy pulling her cowl out of the mold NOW, at last looks. Laura's and Tate's painting issues look extremely tame by comparison.
-Hattrick looks particularly peeved tonight, and no looks have even come out yet.
-Laura's is pretty cool, but I'm not blown away by it like I have been by some of her previous work. I'm not sure the runes look like scars as much as she wanted them to.
-Tate's is very warrior like, though I don't necessarily see the snake thing. It does look more burned, which was the other look he mentioned going for; something about elves being metal-smiths and working near fires all the time.
-Oh very dear, Miranda's is bad. The contestants tend to exaggerate a little with how 'bad' and 'behind' they are, especially Miranda, who seems to lament how awful hers is every single week, including the week she won, but this is actually terrible. It's clearly not done; his palms aren't even painted, and he's a solid teal color with no blending or detailing at all. And the headpiece, that she spent so long doing over and over, is plain and boring. The colors look good from a distance, particularly the teal with the bright red, and it's a shame she didn't get to do the idea full justice.
-Roy's is... Not elfish at all, imho. It's like, part alien and part goblin? Or some kind of pig?
-Time for close up examinations! The judges admire Laura's painting, and her lack of visible edges, and Hattrick loves the paint colors and peeling skin on Tate's. They don't like Miranda's, which is no surprise. Miranda is disappointed in herself, and I feel bad for her; no one wants to be eliminated for a look they hate and didn't even get to finish. I'm not sure if the judges like Roy's or not; I don't think they're thrilled with the proportions, but there's NO WAY it's worse than Miranda's.
-Miranda is so convinced that she's going home that I seriously think she's going to be safe. Just because they keep putting so much emphasis on her certainty of failure, I suspect there isn't going to be an elimination this week.
-I like Laura's (it's glittery!) but she HAS to stop pronouncing 'rune' as 'ruin'.
-Hattrick says Laura's is stunning and beautifully done, Neville loves the story behind it, and Ve likes the swirling tribal tattoos in the paint. Laura might very well win this one.
-As predicted, the judges don't like Roy's, finding it disproportionate and not very elf-like. But, as I said, it cannot be worse than Miranda's.
-Tate's look is 'fantastic' according to Neville, the skin is authentic up close as well as from a distance, and the judges all love the armor.
-Poor Miranda, I don't even want to hear this. They're all disappointed in it, like disapproving parents, and Neville calls it a disaster on so many levels... But then goes on to point out that the sculpt is good. Well, thanks Neville. Hattrick says it's possibly the worst time management issue they've ever seen.
-The judges are debating if it's fair to let someone who did such a substandard job continue, because someone else voluntarily left, or if they should eliminate her as they would on a normal episode.
-Winner: Tate! The judges thought his was a little more dark elf, and Laura's was a little more just elf. Laura is safe as well, obvi.
-Roy is on the bottom, but that's really just a formality at this point isn't it? Dude, you guys don't even have to tell Miranda she did bad, she knows.
-Loser: PSYCH. No one is going home tonight!!! Hattrick says Miranda is only there because she refused to give up, and I actually admire that, on both her part and the part of the judges. I mean, yes, ordinarily they would have eliminated her, but ordinarily people don't quit, and it does seem right to reward the people who stayed and kept working even when they knew their work was crap. :D
-Next week: Birds!
P.S. Why do I find this so attractive?
ETA: Pictures are now up!
Answer to last Tuesday's song: Ghostbusters, by Ray Parker Jr. No one guessed this, though it was a ghostly song to go with the ghost episode of Face Off.

Date: 2013-10-26 11:15 am (UTC)LokiThor 2 themed. xPThe rune pronounciation was distracting me and Scottie too. xD
For Miranda's concept, me and Scottie were like "You... you're doing a challenge about Norse mythology... so you're... going Mayan. Okaaaay..."
I thought it was so sweet how people were worried about Laney. THIS IS WHY LOVE THESE PEOPLE/THIS SHOW!
I do understand something of what Laney said, that she'd pay that much just to see her family again. I remember thinking "This isn't worth all the money in the world" very, very often out in the field but I stuck out what I was doing, and what I was doing was utterly awful. I'd have hoped she'd stick it out, especially that close to the end!
I think Tate totally had a crush on Laney.
The model was doing so much work on Miranda's stuff, oh my ghoul her time management this week was insane! Nobody has ever been that far behind before by last looks. o_o'
I liked Roy's, but not as an elf.
I thought Laura's look was really pretty! Even though her scars didn't turn out, the paint did and it was beautiful! I preferred it to Tate's, but his was really good. Hers was just more my thing. n_n Tates was darker though, and I think that's a good thing!
I figured that they weren't going to send anyone home since Laney left, but it was a weird occurance.
I'm still a bit bummed though that it wasn't really strongly Thor influenced because I was really excited about that.
*sorry for the edits, I should be sleeping so I'm not making a lot of sense n_n'*
