Face Off Finale! Then I'll have to find something else to write about every Tuesday

-Roy wants to win for his wife and kids, which I appreciate, but I want either Laura or Tate to win, sorry! And between the two of them, I think Laura's been more consistent, and I always want girls to win, so...

-Only veterans remain! That was true last week too, McKenzie

-The final challenge is to create makeups for a performance of Swan Lake. Each contestant has to do two looks: the princess/maiden as she's transforming into a swan, and the wizard/sorcerer who cursed her. The makeups will then be put on principal dancers in the Los Angeles ballet company, to go on stage live in front of people. Not like there's any pressure or anything.

-Roy is UNIMPRESSED with the ballet dancing, LOL

-The contestants also get to choose a team of helpers, composed of one veteran and one rookie from this season's eliminated contestants. Laura picks Miranda and Eddie, Roy picks Frank and Scott, and Tate picks Alana and Lyma. Lanie is not there. :(

-And McKenzie has a twist. Of course she does. Each contestant has to select an era to incorporate into their designs. The eras are: The Roaring 20's, the Industrial Revolution, the Ming Dynasty, and the Italian Renaissance. Tate picks the Industrial Revolution, Laura picks the Italian Renaissance, and Roy picks the Ming Dynasty. These are slightly ridiculous era, imho, since the Ming Dynasty lasted 270 years, and the Italian Renaissance covered at least a few centuries. That's a lot of possibilities!

-Laura is using golds, pearls, and a crown, with clothing melting into her swan's skin. Her sorcerer has broad pointy shoulders and a staff. I'm not sure this is complex enough for a finale look, but we'll have to see the finished pieces.

-Tate wants to emphasize pollution (the sorcerer) vs. purity (the swan). His swan is going to have the head on her arm and profile on her chest. I like this idea, but I don't know how it's going to read.

-Roy is really put off by the whole 'ballet' thing, and his team isn't much help. Finally, Frank hits on some automaton thing, which Roy rolls with since he can't come up with anything better. His swan is going to be a machine? I guess?

-Lyma's sculpting isn't up to Tate's standards, and yet she's arguing with him about what he wants. :/ HUSH UP LYMA, YOUR ASS IS NOT ON THE LINE HERE.

-Good thing McKenzie and her daddy are here! Michael is worried about Laura's 1. looking enough like she's morphing into the swan and 2. being beautiful and not scary. Laura, bless her, seems to take this to heart. Tate wants to work in gears, and Michael tells him not to paint it too dark, even though it's greasy etc. Roy doesn't even have a sketch of his swan look, and Michael is concerned about this, as well as about Roy's lack of oversight. Everything should look like it was done by the same person, and right now he's not headed in that direction.

-New day, new concept! Roy has decided the mechanical swan is possibly too close to Tate's thing (100% agreed) so he's got a new idea: Chinese alchemist, and a girl who turns to gold before she turns into a swan.

-Tate also has a new idea, which entails the wizard capturing the princess inside a porcelain/mechanized doll. All right then. Maybe he and Roy had a chat last night?

-Roy's having mold trouble (so what else is new?) which has put him behind

-I'm concerned about the dancers being able to move in Roy's design, especially the wizard.

-Lyma is on feather duty, having been taken off sculpting entirely. Wise move, Tate.

-Right now I like Tate's designs the best. We'll see how they look at the end.

-There's holes in Tate's mold, apparently. If I had a dime for every time that's happened to me... Oh, and now he's stuffing it full of clay. I guess that will fix it? But it's hurt him timewise, and he says this is the worst position he's ever been in on this show. Oy.

-Laura does not like her seams, but there's no time to dwell on that because the dancers are here!

-Roy's male dancer seems to actually be Asian. I can't decide of that's ironic or not.

-Laura has covered six of her subpar edges with a giant kickass pearl choker. I love it, and she says it's the smartest strategic thing she's done all season. Her looks are growing on me.

-I do not care for the shade of yellow on Roy's, and it may actually be racist to make a Chinese man yellow.

-Lyma is now doing the body paint, because that's what she's best at. Again, wise move, Tate!

-I wonder if the dancers they picked are like, used to dancing in all this nonsense? They all seem really unfazed by this intense makeup application.

-There are SO MANY DETAILS on all these looks, it's amazing!

-Roy's team is all wearing cowboy hats that match his. LOL.

-Tate is concerned that his hastily made sorcerer crown might fly off mid-show. I hope that doesn't happen.

-Time to dance! Fortunately, they have finagled this so that no one has to sit through Swan Lake three times.

-Roy is up first! I am unimpressed by the face on his swan, but her chest is pretty cool and the transformation aspect is definitely there. The sorcerer is awesome, and he's more gold than yellow, which is good. I don't know that the swan reads Ming; the sorcerer definitely does, but can he dance in it?

-Laura's looks are very well done, but I'm not sure that they say Renaissance. They also seem really heavy to me, which I don't usually associate with ballet. All the work is very compact, but maybe that's better for dancing?

-Tate's swan is really wonderful, and I like the arm swan head thing. Plus, the cracking porcelain skin effect came out perfectly. His sorcerer is a little less impressive, with a static mouth and a crown that looks kind of cheap. I'm not sure whose looks I like the best.

-And now they're doing actual ballet in these outfits, which is nothing short of astounding. Nothing flies off Tate's looks when they spin, and (as suspected) Roy's sorcerer had to take off his big cape/cowl thing in order to dance.

-Roy's looks the most like a swan (and the most like the traditional Swan Lake makeup) but Laura's characters look the most like they belong together, and I like Tate's concept the best. These are really the top three people here.

-During closer looks, the judges like Roy's swan feathers and the color palette on his sorcerer, the theatricality of Laura's looks and the way the look like molding, the gear detail on Tate's, and the beard on his wizard. They didn't show the judges saying a single bad thing, though I'm sure it wasn't all sunshine and roses in real life. But, overall, they are impressed with how beautiful all the work is, and Hattrick says he's confident that they have the right people here. He is not wrong.

-Hattrick loves Roy's sorcerer, but thinks the feather transition on the swan's chest could have been done better. The judges like the overall design, but are looking for a little more work on the details.

-Laura looks like she's going to cry, but it's ok because Ve loves the morphing bodice, and Neville likes her detailing. Hattirck says Laura's looks are unique and have 'savage beauty'. (They also said that these two look the best together, which I had already observed.)

-Neville applauds Tate's bold choices, strong characters, and silhouettes. Hattrick likes the asymmetrical swan, but isn't crazy about the sorcerer (especially his paint job), saying he looks more like a derelict than a powerful mage.

-I honestly think anyone could win at this point, and the judges aren't helping me figure it out! Hattrick says it's the tightest race they've ever had on the show.

-And the winner is: Laura!!! She can hardly believe it, if her face is anything to go by, and then they all get covered in confetti! I LOVE LAURA, YAY! Aww shit, she won a car?! Woo!!!

-The boys are disappointed, obviously, but talk about how fantastic the experience was and how proud they are of themselves. I'm proud of them too! Laura gives her family and friends credit for supporting her on this path. She's a class act, and I'm glad that she won. :D

Pictures are up! Please consider checking them out, because BALLET.

Answer to last Tuesday's song: Little Bird, Little Bird, from Man of La Mancha. This was to go with Face Off's bird theme last week, but no one guessed it.

Didn't get a chance to watch it because I was watching Supernatural, but I'm glad that Laura won she really should've won her season to be honest. I'm sad Tate didn't win again, I just love his work. Same with Roy's.

Right? I wanted Tate and Laura to both win, they were both so amazing! Laura I think just had more of a handle on her looks every week, whereas Tate's often got away from him in one way or another.

Tate is just the sweetest though. I hope he gives Laney a call. :D

I can always count on you to get the Chicago references. :)

I thought they were pretty appropriate song lyrics, given the challenge. ;)

Ha ha - I didn't actually read the post because I've never seen that show! Sorry :)

I didn't even have to think about that one though. I was singing it as soon as I saw it.

That happens to me when I write out the lyrics, and then they get stuck in my head. :)

I loved Tate's swan and Laura's sorcerer, so I was a bit torn. I'm glad Laura won, she's consistently the best, I feel. I ache a bit for Tate, but he's going to get scooped up by some awesome design company, I'm sure. Roy, I hated toward the end. I don't know why. I think I just got so annoyed by his overall ideas that I was yelling during the winner reveal "Anyone but Roy!!!!"

That is my story. And now I'm officially caught up on this show and don't know what to do with my time.

That was me lying. I have a a bajillion (technical term) other shows I'm watching.

Also, it's like 2 weeks until I see you. And that's awesome.

I agree about Roy, he really started to get on my nerves and I was pulling for basically anyone but him.

Actually, we're doing Thanksgiving in VA with Chris and Heather this year, which is nice because I only get Thursday and Friday off and so I wouldn't be able to make it up to VT anyway.

But I'll be home around Christmas, if you can hold out just a few more weeks!
