Date: 2005-07-24 05:51 pm (UTC)Somethin. This warrants lengthy discussion, I think.
And yes, in 2 or 3 years, I will hunt you down and force you to read the 7th book. Cuz face it, it needs to be done.
Thank You

Date: 2005-07-24 07:34 pm (UTC)I'm convinced there will be crying involved.
as for discussion- check the comments on my last post and send me your thoughts and doubtlessly maimed emotions.
ps- I'm not absolutely sure I BELIEVE that Snape is truly for the Dark Lord at heart. that murder must have had an awful lot to due with the idiotic oath he made. Think- he was great friends with R.A.B., was he not? On the other hand- why the bloody FUCK did he make that oath!? Barring a deep unrequieted obession with Narcissa that I have oft suspected, of course. I really loved Snape! He can't just turn on me like that. Far too cliche, anyway.
"Oh, he's evil."
"No, he's misunderstood."
"Evil."
"Misunderstood."
"Evil."
"Misunderstood."
"Evil."
"Misunderstood."
"Pardon, but, I am, in fact, quite deeply evil"
"Told ya so."
rubbish, says I. There's more to it. He's been made out to be too much a tragic and abused, misunderstood character to be dismissed as rotten.

Date: 2005-07-25 12:25 pm (UTC)Therefore, my intuition and intelligence tell me that there is more to the Snape story than we have seen. Some thoughts:
1. In my opinion, Dumbledore was going to die anyways, and his plea was for Snape to kill him.
2. Snape made an unbreakable vow to do Draco's task if Draco could not. Draco's task was to kill Dumbledore. He could not do it. Assuming Snape was on Dumbledore's side, Dumbledore would have known about the vow. As we saw in the cave/lake chapter with Harry, Dumbledore places others lives before his own. Ron stated at one point that if you break an unbreakable vow, you die. Thus, Dumbledore knew Snape either had to kill him, or die himself, and he chose to die so that Snape could live. For whatever reason he likes and trusts Snape.
3. Everyone seems to be forgetting that Snape and Dumbledore were both accomplished Legilmes/Occulmens (whatever the words are). Who knows what thoughts they could have shared on that rooftop?
4. We still do not know why Dumbledore trusts Snape. There must be a damn good reason, and I'm not buying the sob story about Lily and James as the whole truth.
5. If you notice, in the chapter with Narcissa, Snape definately doesn't really answer Bellatrix's questions very satisfactorily, but basically says "Voldemort trusts me so you should too." This is the same argument the Order uses, only it's Dumbledore and not Voldemort. If he were truly evil, I believe there'd be better explainations.
6. One of Snape's memories in OotP involved watching his parents fight. In HBP, we find out a little more about his mum and dad. I really believe that this has something to do with his personality and actions, and that we will understand come book seven.
7. I am defending a character that I don't even like. If he were evil, I would not be doing this.
8. I still don't like Snape, but he's not evil.

ps- I love Phlem. I'm going to start calling my own obnoxious bitch sister-in-law that. Hahahaha. I do love Ginny.

Ginny rocks.
