Ok, new conundrum of my life: do I stay in my education class even though I don't think I really want to be a teacher anymore?

Points:
+ I really like the class, and I think it would be good to learn about teching even if I'm not necessarily going to be doing it.
+ I may have to pick up a different class if I drop this one, so it's easier to stay.
- I have to go to an actual school and actually student teach or something. And that TERRIFIES me.
+ The teacher is fucking awesome
+ The workload isn't bad
- We have to come up with all these things that really require one to be in the mindset that they're going to be a teacher some day, and I really don't think I am.
+ I might change my mind again, and decide I DO want to be a teacher...

Any opinions? I have sort of a limited amount of time to decide, and only three days (including today) to return the textbook to the bookstore so...

Take the class. Student teaching terrifies me, too. I've had to sub once and I almost pissed myself. I will tell you, though, teaching kids, even just for a class, will teach you more and help you grow more than any class you could possibly take.

I really think it'd be good for you, and I think, at the end, you would enjoy it. MUAH!

Ok, as long as we can be scared together...

If the only reason for dropping it is that it terrifies you, do it. It'll be a good experience, no matter if you teach or not, ESPECIALLY because it scares you.

Plus you'll be fine.

loooooooooooove

I think you should go for it. One thing I've learned in college is that it's good to take risks and challenge yourself. Also, the skills you learn will probably come in handy in the future, even if you don't decide to teach. For example, a lot of the places I looked for internships this summer (particularly zoos) were looking for people to do educational programs for kids. It sounded like so much fun, but I was afraid I didn't have the appropriate experience to do well. Good luck!

Ahhhhhh.... That's good to know. I'm gonna stay in it anyways, but that strengthens my decision.

Thank you!

Hm. I'd stay. You want to keep your options open, and you shouldn't let something like fear (of having to student-teach) keep you from trying something new. You'll get over the fear, but you might not get over the regret of passing up the opportunity. And who knows, it could turn out you actually like it.

You are right, as usual. :)

I'm staying.

Thanks!
