fandom_counts? Fandom has restored some of my faith in humanity. We fought for our rights (ok, I didn't fight, but others did, and I am in fandom) and we succeeded.
Amen.
You know, the first time I saw this movie I really, really didn't like it. Despite it having Johnny Depp in a pirate outfit (again) I didn't go buy it when it came out on DVD. In fact, I saw it once in the theaters, and for the second time today. And I was doubtful about watching it again.
That being said, I enjoyed it this time. A lot. I'm not entirely sure what happened, but it didn't bother me. Maybe it was because I already knew what was going to happen, but the fight scenes didn't seem as long, tedious, and pointless as they did the first time, and the huge number of random nameless characters that got killed didn't irk me this time around. Even the bit on the island was ok to me this time through.
Maybe it's because I know Jack's not really dead (as evidenced by him being in all the ads for the third one) or because I'm pretty sure that Elizabeth's going to end up with Will (as evidenced by him proposing to her in one of the ads) points that bothered me greatly when I first saw the movie.
Also, that last scene with Tia Dalma, where Barbosa walks down the stairs... FANTASTIC. Made me go all giddy. I never realized how much Barbosa brought to the first movie until he wasn't in the second one.
Anyways, I'm going to see the third one tonight, and I hope it leaves me with a better initial impression than Dead Man's Chest. Expect a post about it, in any case.
