Remember remember the fifth of November
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot
I can think of no reason why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.

And that's all I know, because I am a stupid American and the only reason I even know that much is because of my undying love of V for Vendetta

Though at this point I feel compelled to point out that I did know of the existence of Guy Fawkes Day before that movie came out. In the fourth grade Devin Siva's mom came in to talk to us about being from England, which she was, and I asked if they had a Fourth of July over there. And everyone laughed at me for being an idiot, but Ms. Siva was really nice and explained that they have Guy Fawkes Day, which also involves fireworks, so it's kind of the same.

So there.

Happy (?) Guy Fawkes Day!

guy fawkes day is also mentioned in "Angus, Thongs, and Full-frontal Snogging" (they have a big bonfire).

Yes, yes indeed it is. I heart those books.

It should be a happy day. It's when people fought for independence, right?

Well... Sort of. Fawkes and his posse tried to blow up Parliment because they were Catholic and they were resisting the Protestant rule of England.

The day is to celebrate that they failed, not that they tried. They go around burning Fawkes in effigy, which is kind of not cool if you're a Catholic.

It's only in more recent years that Fawkeshas been seen as an honorable man.

Wow, I really sound like I know what I'm talking about, don't I?

Woohoo!
Happy (?) Guy Fawkes Day indeed!

I love that movie too; right after it, I went and found the entire Guy Fawkes poem and made it into an icon. I dunno where it went, though.

Did you find the part about killing the Pope?

I saw it, but I didn't put it in said icon. It was just the "Remember, Remember" poem.

Oh, I didn't think you had. I just saw it and was like "Ah. I see why they left that part out."

Yeah, that would've been horribly controversial, wouldn't it? They would've probably had to issue a statement going "we don't actually want to kill the priest, mind you, it's just part of the movie"

Yeah, they didn't need any more controversial stuff in that movie. Or any more anti-religion stuff either. :)

No, haha, they probably didn't.
I think all the anti-religion was nicely balanced out with the line "God is in the rain", though :D

I know. They made a nice distinction between faith/belief and religion.
