Nov. 5th, 2007 08:25 amRemember remember the fifth of November
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot
I can think of no reason why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.
And that's all I know, because I am a stupid American and the only reason I even know that much is because of my undying love of V for Vendetta.
Though at this point I feel compelled to point out that I did know of the existence of Guy Fawkes Day before that movie came out. In the fourth grade Devin Siva's mom came in to talk to us about being from England, which she was, and I asked if they had a Fourth of July over there. And everyone laughed at me for being an idiot, but Ms. Siva was really nice and explained that they have Guy Fawkes Day, which also involves fireworks, so it's kind of the same.
So there.
Happy (?) Guy Fawkes Day!

Date: 2007-11-05 03:46 pm (UTC)The day is to celebrate that they failed, not that they tried. They go around burning Fawkes in effigy, which is kind of not cool if you're a Catholic.
It's only in more recent years that Fawkeshas been seen as an honorable man.
Wow, I really sound like I know what I'm talking about, don't I?

I love that movie too; right after it, I went and found the entire Guy Fawkes poem and made it into an icon. I dunno where it went, though.
