Even though I own the entirety of Firefly on DVD, it’s on Sci-Fi right now, and when I saw that I screamed, threw the flicker away from me, and settled down to watch.

And speaking of screaming, I went to NYC this weekend and saw Spring Awakening

And it was AMAZING. We stayed at Katie Healy’s house, and her parents are pretty much the coolest perople in the world. Her mom must have spent hundreds of dollars on feeding us, plus she found air mattresses and pillows and blankets for 10 people (plus her daughter, though she slept in her own bed). And her dad owns a restaurant, and he gave us a free dinner (which was really really good, btw.) Cause he is awesome.

Now, as for Spring Awakening, I don’t want to say anything about the play, because I didn’t know anything about it (well, very little about it) going in, and I firmly believe that that’s the way to see it. The less you know about it beforehand, the more you can be completely blown away by it.

I will say a few things though:

1. All men should be required to go back to wearing breeches, stockings, and suspenders. Especially suspenders. (And as I watch Firefly, and oogle Mal’s suspenders, I reaffirm this belief.)

2. Michelle was talking about being happy with just seeing the light cues and no other part of the show. I thought she was nuts before the show, but there was this one light… thing during Totally Fucked that when it happened, I screamed. No joke. Other people gasped; I actually screamed.

3. The music is so good. It works in the context of the play, and outside it.

4. Most of the original cast is still in it, so we got to see the same people who are on the cd, live. And that was cool.

5. Apparently the adult woman played Meredith’s mother on Grey’s Anatomy. If I cared about that show, that would mean something to me. And the guy who was Moritz (not an original cast member) is Carl on Lost. And if I cared about that show, that would also mean something to me.

And the last thing is that we waited outside after the show and I got a bunch of autographs. Including Jonathan Groff, who played the main guy. Melchior. He was so very very nice and so very very pretty. (There will be pictures on Facebook in the near future.) I’ve never done that before, but I would totally totally do it again. It’s so cool to meet the people you just watched put on a fantastic show.

Oh, and Michelle knew Lauren Pritchard, who was in the show, and so when she came out she brought Michelle backstage (after remembering who she was) and it was her last day being in Spring Awakening, and it was just amazing all around. She has such a fantastic voice. You can listen to her on her myspace, and I suggest that you do.

Last and finally, this was Abby’s first time in the city, and so it was really nice to be there with her for that. She went to Sak’s (Sack’s? Geeze, this shows you what I know about it, I don’t even know how to spell it) 5th Avenue while we were in the five story American Girl store. Yeah.

In any case, it was a lot of fun, the Healys deserve a medal, Spring Awakening is phenomenal, and if you want to hear more about the play, I can tell you in person. If you’re sure you want to know.  :)
