Ok government, listen to me and hear what I'm saying: lifting the restrictions on off-shore oil drilling IS. NOT. THE. ANSWER.

Looking for new sources of oil in a vain effort to delay the inevitable time when we run out of fossil fuels all together is not the way to spend our time and money. We need to look for alternative energy sources, and that is where the time and money should go.

Not that the outrageous gas prices aren't annoying, but they're the only thing that is going to make America change. We need to suffer monetarilly so that we'll see that the way we're living, and have been living, is unsustainable.

So STOP IT ALREADY.

Amen, sister. I also want a government that invests in public transportation. Can't afford gas? Fuck you*; take the bus. (But the bus has to stop at your house, first.)

People don't stop driving until gas prices are high; when gas what cheap, they came out with the hummer. If those fucking morons don't stop fucking up my government, I'm going to fuck someone up.

I agree with you Megan..kinda....

The plus to starting off shore drilling up means that we can buy more time/money for the research into alternative fuel sources. Every cent we save on gas actually would help in the process. Until then, we're destroying our planet anyways AND paying out our asses. So...I'm kind of ok with the drilling, as long as it buys us time to fix our fucked up dependency on a fuel that can't be replaced.

You, as always, raise a very valid point. And if I felt like that was what the government's intention was, I wouldn't have a problem.

But the vibe I got was that Bush is looking to drill in order to lower fuel costs and stem the rising tide of anger and pillaging and... that's it. Not that he was looking to save money so he could put it into alternative energy research.

Now, you and I should go to Washington with this scheme, and save the planet. Lessgo!

You're probably right, but no matter what his goals are for it, we've got a new regime who might save the world. I doubt it, I seriously doubt it. This country's luck: we're most likely going to use my idea as a pretense to keep digging, everyone will forget, and we'll all die in an Industrial Apocalypse.

You pay for my plane ticket and I'll be in Washington this week. Meet ya there!

I know. But hey, we can hope for a new president to have new ideas.

Yeah, I'll get right on that plane ticket.

I had a really long thought out rebuttal, because I completely disagree...

But then my computer crashed, and I just worked 12 hours, so I'm WAAAY too fucking tired to write it again. Trust me, though, it was intelligent and scathing...like woah.

Eh, I was tired when I wrote it. And slightly hopeful that the world isn't the seething pool of scum that it really is. Don't forget that "Matty McCool" lives in a world where everything is done for the Good reason. So even if it isn't, Matt will find some sort of justification so as to continue to live in his naive universe.
