A Three Part Post
Oct. 30th, 2008 09:36 am1. Happy Birthday to: Phillip Noonan, Denelle, Renee B., Amanda Mulligan, and Molly Weasley. (WTF goes on nine months before the 30th?)
2. It's Cabbage Night!
3. Although I am fortunate enough to live in Vermont, a state which passed a Civil Union law in 2000, (Parties to a civil union shall have all the same benefits, protections, and responsibilities under Vermont law, whether they derive from statute, policy, administrative or court rule, common law, or any other source of civil law, as are granted to spouses in a marriage.) which, granted, isn't a marriage in name, but the feeling's there, and also to attended a college where one of the theater professors got the first civil union in the state, I still think everyone should read this: (Gacked from
siriusly_sex )
1. Being Gay Is Not Natural
And real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning, tattoos, piercings and silicon breasts...
2. Gay Marriage Will Encourage People To Be Gay
In the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3. Legalizing Gay Marriage Will Open The Door To All Kinds Of Crazy Behavior
People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract. Lamps are next.
4. Straight Marriage Has Been Around A Long Time And Hasn't Changed At All
Hence why women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5. Straight Marriage Will Be Less Meaningful If Gay Marriage Were Allowed
And we can't let the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage be destroyed.
6. Straight Marriages Are Valid Because They Produce Children
So therefore, gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our population isn't out of control, our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
7. Obviously Gay Parents Will Raise Gay Children
Since, of course, straight parents only raise straight children.
8. Gay Marriage Is Not Supported By Religion
In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
9. Children Can Never Succeed Without A Male And A Female Role Model
Which is exactly why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10. Gay Marriage Will Change The Foundation Of Society; We Could Never Adapt To New Social Norms
Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.
Repost This If You Think Love Makes A Marriage
Vote NO On Proposition 8

Date: 2008-10-30 07:47 pm (UTC)I just have to say that I was tall as a child. Ever since, people around me have been growing more and more. Coincidence?

Date: 2008-10-30 11:24 pm (UTC)I would like to point out that In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America. While a majority of Americans identify themselves as "Christian" (180 million out of 300 million people), there is a lot of division within the Christian community. There are a growing number of pro-gay churches. Obviously no one runs a lot of stories on those, as it's bad news that sells.
If the values you mean are the egalitarianism Jesus espoused and the order of law inspired by the ten commandments and other judaic principles, not to mention those heathen Greeks like Plato & Aristotle... Take it from someone living in the Bible Belt surrounded by Baptists, we are most definitely not a theocracy. We just have too many idiots being given way too much media attention. And too many idiots who do exactly what their pastor says instead of critically reading the bible & actually analyzing what they read.
And Christ never said "boo" about homosexuals. I think Paul did. And we all know how reliable Paul is. *eye roll* The anti-gay stuff was way back in the book of Levites- there are some classic sporfle "abominations" in that book of the OT. Mostly because the Jews had been wandering in the desert for a while and were starting to get a wee bit crazy. Go read it if you ever need a laugh.
I'm somewhat of a Jesus/Gnosic/Mary Magdalene freak. Did you know that the first churches were in peoples homes, and the WOMEN ran them? Peter and then Paul changed that. There's a whole political maneuvering that went on during the time the Gnostic gospels were written. I'll stop there as I've already gone on too long :-)
