-We're splitting the teams down into pairs. Not sure why we've decided to do this now, but whatever. Heidi pulls names out of the infamous button bag, and those she picks get to choose their partner. Samantha got to choose first because she won last week.

-The new pairs are: Samantha and Daniel, Richard and Stanley, Patricia and Layana (Layana is not thrilled by this), Mat and Michelle (Michelle is worried by this), Kate and Tu, Amanda and Blondejamin (by default, as being the last two left. Blondejamin is worried about his partner because Amanda's team threw her under the bus last week; what he doesn't know is that she totally didn't deserve it. RISE ABOVE IT, AMANDA.)

-WTF is Johnny Utahs? They have gone to some kind of Western themed place in order to inspire the designers to design for Miranda Lambert. All right then!

-Challenge: Each team of two must design a red carpet look and a performance look for Miranda Lambert. The performance look has to be both country and rock and roll, while the red carpet look has to be young, fresh, and not over-designed (whatever that means.) The designers will get a dossier with looks she's worn in the past, and are informed that Miranda likes to celebrate her curves. Finally, the looks don't have to have cohesion, which is a nice change.

-Apparently Patricia comes from a family of Native American performers and dancers. Maybe this explains her weird-ass flower thing from last week?

-Amanda is from Nashville, so now Blondejamin is happy to have her as his partner (especially as he is British). They are going in a fringe direction.

-Tu and Kate are now BFF's. Kate says she doesn't know him real well, but he's always been nice to her, and that's why she picked him. There are worse reasons.

-Daniel is doing separates for the red carpet look. This could go really well or very badly.

-Everything Richard says about working with Stanley sounds like a thinly veiled homosexual pick up line. "Our energies are great together."

-Daniel has chosen "metallic navy leather" for his fabric. I... I don't know how I feel about that, but I have faith in his mustache.

-Richard's sketch worries me.

-There is a lot of leather and metallic going on in the workroom.

-Tu is doing "Gaga for country music". I don't really know why.

-Daniel has pulled out the word "soutache". I don't think the fact that that sounds a lot like 'mustache' is a coincidence.

-Tim is emphasizing working in teams, which is good because most of them are really just working independently.

-Tu keeps saying hilarious things, but I feel bad laughing at him because half the the hilarity comes from the fact that he's ESL.

-Daniel is making something very pretty, but Tim is concerned that it will draw the eye to Miranda's lady business. (Spoiler: it kind of did.)

-Several designers are concerned with time issues, especially Layana (well, she's concerned with Patricia's time issues. That still counts.)

-Tim is not on board with Tu's "Gaga" look; not on board at all. Possibly not even on the same ocean.

-This is the most screentime Tu has had all season, so I'm worried for him.

-Layana says there's a fine line between glamorous and tacky. Ellen disagrees.

-Amanda and Blondejamin are my favorite team right now.

-A and B didn't spend almost half their allotted budget, which makes me wonder what happens to the rest of that money? I'm pretty sure it doesn't roll over, so where does it go?

-Michelle told Mat he was amazing, but she didn't sound very sincere. Probably because she does not actually believe that.

-Everyone, including Ellen and me, is concerned with the fact that Richard's dress is unlined, (and therefore see-through) except Richard.

-Michelle is doing a spot on and fairly hilarious Nina impression. LOL FOREVER.

-Amanda is hand cutting fringe (not that I think there's another way to make fringe) and finds it tedious. Well, yes, I imagine it is.

-HOLD THE PHONE, AMANDA'S BROTHER IS IN MAROON 5? I LITERALLY JUST SHOUTED 'WHAT' AT THE TV. I MUST INVESTIGATE THIS IMMEDIATELY. HOLY CRAP, SHE LIVED WITH ADAM LEVINE! THE CAPS LOCK IS NOT CONVEYING MY EXCITEMENT ADEQUATELY!!! (Fifth and sixth paragraphs here. I didn't bother reading the whole thing yet.) SHE IS MY NEW FAVORITE.

-Daniel is shredding his skirt with a fork. I love him. (I know I just said Amanda was my new favorite, but Daniel is still  my old favorite).

-Richard made his dress lining out of Mood T-shirts that he and Stanley had bought with part of their budget. I found this moderately hilarious, especially as he then said, "thank you, Mood".

-Is Tu's model wearing a bottom? I don't think she is, but maybe she will be by the time she gets to the runway.

-The guest judge is Miranda Lambert, obviously.

-Amanda's is fierce! I like it, and it looks comfy.

-Blondejamin's is pretty and simple, but the boob dangle confuses me.

-Tu's model is, in fact, wearing a skirt, and doesn't look very much like Gaga. This is not a bad thing.

-Kate's is SO RED and I like it a lot. Andrew is concerned about Miranda Lambert wearing it though.

-Samantha's is ok. It's cute, I guess.

-DANIEL. I LOVE IT! Ellen agrees with me. He made the leather look nothing like leather, and I like the color too.

-Mat's is not the worst thing I've ever seen, but it's boring and just... black. Also, possibly too short.

-Michelle, you said Nina was going to bitch about the necklace, and I agree with you, because WHAT THE HELL. The outfit is quite nice, and then you added that! You didn't have to add fringe just because everyone else did, you know.

-Patricia's is... very fringe-y. I don't care for it; it actually looks like a Native American costume, and I'm not convinced that's the way she should have gone.

-Layana's is BEAUTIFUL. (The model is like, holding it open in this picture, and I don't know why, but it looked better on TV.) Very simple but seriously gorgeous. And it's a really nice color, with an interesting back detail.

-Richard's, on the other hand, is AWFUL. It's like seaweed... made out of chains. And the back is totally plain. Blech,

-Stanley's gown is also very simple, but pretty. And all the gowns have shiny belts for some reason.

-Mat: Everything is subjective. Life itself is subjective. Ellen: Oh my God, shut the fuck up.

-Are you kidding me? They like Richard's crappy shiny seaweed leather dress? I hate it, seriously.

-You know, the more I look at Stanley's the less I like it. The judges are concerned about the volume of the pleating and fabric in the skirt.

-They like Blondejamin's dress, which is nice for him. I like it too, overall, I just don't know what's up with the boob dangle.

-They love Amanda's dress, I love Amanda's dress, Miranda loves Amanda's dress, and that's because she lived with Adam Levine is actually a really good designer. Also, Blondejamin is now Amanda's biggest fan. Furthermore, he is being very humble, which is nice.

-Oh God, Michelle's earrings match that awful necklace.

-The necklace distracts me too, Miranda. I don't know what the hell she was thinking with that.

-"Giant fringe necklace" does not sound fun to me, Michelle.

-The vest is, indeed, nice, but I agree that the outfit is a little too casual for red carpet. It's also, as they said, too rock and roll.

-Yeah, Mat's dress is bad, but it's especially bad for someone to wear on stage. Mat is crying and Miranda is giving him a pep talk. She's so sweet. Aww, Michelle is coming to bat for Mat... But his lack of confidence is going to be a problem.

-Awww, they don't like Daniel's. I do, and I don't think it looks inexpensive. Nina has a point with the seam in the middle, though.

-Wow, Samantha's model looks pissed.

-Hahaha, they like the outfit Samantha's wearing better than the one she designed.

-Zac Posen, what does that even mean, you don't like designers who design really far from what they wear themselves? Does that mean they can only ever design according to their own personal style? I miss Michael Kors.

-Miranda's hair is awful, and makes her looks like she has a teeny tiny head, and Nina's shirt is butt ugly. I don't trust their fashion judgement.

-Winner: Richard. REALLY?! Ugh. He's thrilled though, so good for him I guess.

-I guess none of the red carpet looks got picked?

-Samantha has immunity, so she's in. Mat is uncreative, Daniel is cheap and dated, Michelle's is 80's rock and in poor taste. Mat is out. This does not surprise me, as he had the most screen time (Daniel barely had any, and Michelle's was all about her worries about Mat.)

-Ellen is advising Mat to go home and restructure his life. He's telling the other designers that he deserved to go home... His confidence is a serious issue, and I really do think that's what sent him home. At least Michelle and Daniel stood up for their looks.

-Oh God, next week's challenge is a client challenge, with older ladies as their clients and models. Someone said they got goosed. That sounds AMAZING.

Now with pictures!

ugh. So the only team where I liked both looks was Amanda and Benjamin. Besides that I liked Kate and Layana's dresses.

I honestly didn't think Mat's was that bad. I've seen artists wear outfits at least that short in performances and it looked really well constructed. It must have been his confidence that sealed his fate - if he doesn't believe in his work how can he expect the judges to?

And Richard's dress was AWFUL! One of my biggest pet peeves is when the detailing from the front of a dress isn't continued around the back (which he totally could have done with that hideous fringe). Just not good. And that crocheted looking netting on the back? Blech.

I do not understand why Miranda wore her hair like that. What on earth was she thinking? What were the stylists thinking? What were the cameramen thinking to themselves and not saying for fear of being fired? She normally wears it so pretty and full and wavy a la this.

I think the challenge was especially hard though since Miranda is short and curvy (5'4" and a dress size 8) and models are the opposite of that. I tried to take that into consideration when looking at the outfits since she and I have similar body types (I'm 5'0" and wear size 6 dresses - jeans are another story though...). I think her best red carpet looks have been at the Grammy's in 2011 and the CMA Awards in 2012. She's had a lot of bad looks along the way, so I don't really trust her taste anyways.

I think the issue with Mat's was less the length, and more how boring it looked? I'm not sure. His confidence was the real issue though, definitely, and that was made etra apparant in the editing of the episode.

I TOTALLY agree about the stuff not continuing arond the back being awful and stupid. That was one of my issues with it. Ugh, Miranda's hair. I was so glad I found a picture so that people would know why I was having such issues with it.
