Not gonna lie, guys, my heart is not in this liveblog tonight. Two hours is just too long for this show, and I tend to lose some of my interest when there's so few designers left.
...And Daniel is still in the running, so woo! Still, this will probably be a shorter blog than usual.
-Now they all get to create a collection while at home, and the judges will decide which of them get to show at fashion week.
-Tim and Heidi are stressing that only one of them can win. I just hope it won't be Stanley.
-They get $10,000 to create a 12 look fall collection, including the appropriate colors and possibly outerwear. I missed how long they have to do this, but it's at least several months.
-Patricia says she's scared, because she's never won a challenge. That's kind of a good point.
-Michelle is saying that Stanley is like a magpie, who's going to keep adding sparkles and feathers to his looks... Has she been watching the same season I have? His looks are DULL AS SOUP and never have any ornamentation or bling on them at all!
-Patricia lives somewhere snowy, which the screen is telling me is New Mexico. I had no idea that it got cold and snowed there. Also, she may or may not live on a reservation; there's definitely square adobe houses. Suddenly her aesthetic is clearer.
-They made Tim a big New Mexican meal. I love Patricia's family right now, OMG.
-Tim looks SO OUT OF PLACE wearing his three piece suit in the adobe clay kitchen hung with native tapestries and full of semi-traditionally dressed people. (Patricia's stepfather seems kind of confused by what's going on... I'm not sure if he doesn't speak English, or is just old and deaf.)
-In Patricia's collection we have: leather mesh (something the judges liked earlier), a horsehair cape (I have no idea if that will go over well or not), and felted wool. Even though this episode is making me really like Patricia, her designs are still so WEIRD that I don't know if she's going to make it or not.
-Does Tim Gunn only own one suit? Or does he have a whole closet full of the same suit?
-P.S. I hate Michelle's shirt, and necklace/bib.
-In Michelle's collection we have: a wolf pattern (because she's a lone wolf, supposedly), a chestplate (why am I not surprised?), and a skirt over a dress (Why? Is that necessary? Wouldn't one or the other of those be enough?)
-DANIEL TIME!!!
-OH HOLY SHIT, DANIEL, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR HAIR?! Did he get a perm? WHAT IS THAT? (His mustache by comparison has lost its flair)
-LOL the first thing Tim said to him was, "look at your hair!"
-Daniel is apparently from Puerto Rico. Huh. (He's Hispanic and gay... OMG he's Angel!)
-He lives with his sister, his best friend, and his best friend's partner. Ok then!
-In Daniel's collection, we have: inspiration from Salvador Dali, Berlin, and the cosmos (Oh dear, that could go really wrong), a color palette of black, red, white and blue (which I am totally digging), a leather jacket he apparently shaped using his hands and the heat from the sun (how, I have no idea), and something that Tim called, "Grandma's robe" and "horrible."
-Stanley apparently does not have a family, as we are going straight to his studio and collection.
-In Stanley's collection we have: lots of gold, a velvet capelet (again with the capelets!), an orange dress with a pastel coat (which I DO NOT LIKE), and "so much fabulous you'll need to add some denim".
-Oh, no, I lied. Stanley invited Tim to lunch with him, his partner (there go Richard's hopes), and his niece. His niece looks a little like Beyonce, and his partner has apparently been with him for 20 years. Stanley doesn't look old enough to have been in a relationship for 20 years, unless he started when he was 10. I guess he's aged well.
-Apparently Stanley had a sister named Belinda who he was very close to who died last year. :(
-Back in NYC, Daniel's hair has calmed down somewhat, as has everyone attitudes toward each other. I think the time apart did them good.
-Stanley still has a lot of work to do, which is worrying everyone.
-Guys, my TV is freaking right the fuck out, and I feel like it's going to cut out at any second...
-Tim has a surprise! The designers get help, because this is PR teams. I can't see who the help is, because the picture on my TV has gone out entirely, and I only have sound right now.
-Ok, my picture is back for the moment. Michelle has been assigned her BFF Amanda, Patricia got Layana (who is like, six months pregnant and it's weird because she wasn't when i saw her last week), Daniel has Samantha, and Stanley has Richard (has he mentioned his partner to Richard? He definitely should.).
-I do kinda like Michelle's wolf sweater, but I don't know how I feel about the detachable chaps.
-Stanley's collection seems less boring than usual, but also kind of old fashioned.
-They have to select three looks from their collections to show to the judges, and Patricia's three are all sequins and fur headpieces and horsehair capes. I don't even know anymore.
-Tim called her third look "lumberjack-y". Not exactly what you want to hear. (You can see the lumberjack shirt in the background of this picture. Tim's not wrong, but I also kind of like it.)
-Daniel did a jacket out of 'stingray.' Andrew and I don't know if that's a material or a style or what. The internet seems to indicate that this is a type/design of fabric, possibly made of leather. That seems to fit with Daniel.
-Why is no one but me baffled by the horsehair cape? Even Michelle likes it.
-Michelle's pants are all too small to fit over her model's butt. I'm having horrible flashbacks to the Thunder from Down Under episode where nothing anybody made fit anyone.
-Layana is badmouthing Patricia's collection to Samantha. This is neither necessary nor making me feel bad that she got eliminated last week.
-Runway time!
-Stanley 1: Boring, as usual. I do like the jacket though.
-Stanley 2: Less boring, but it kind of makes the model look fat. Stanley even says it's the wrong fit for her.
-Stanley 3: Oh God, that's ugly. It looks like it's covered in tiny gold beetles (in a bad way), and the jacket is too big.
-Patricia 1: This is the look she made yesterday, at the urging of Layana and Tim. It's actually kind of cute, though she could lose the scarf.
-Patricia 2: I like the skintight pants, but I still don't know what's up with the horsehair cape. No one wears capes, much less with horsehair on them.
-Patricia 3: She looks like a Dr. Seuss character; that's really all I can say. The dress, however, isn't as bad as it looked in the work room, and the sequins actually give it nice sparkles and movement. I'm just so distracted by the thing on her head.
-Daniel 1: It's ok. I LOVE the hat, but the shirt looks like it's too short.
-Daniel 2: I like this one better, though the sweater is a little see-through. Also, did he only use black? What happened to all the red and blue and white he showed Tim?
-Daniel 3: Simple black dress, which I hope is enough to wow the judges. The back is pretty cool, and definitely pops, but it's kind of plain to be in your showcase, Daniel.
-Michelle 1: I still like the pattern, but why is that sweater so big? And what's with the flowy sleeves?
-Michelle 2: Looks like a bondage steampunk housewife. And yet, it strangely appeals to me (not the color palette though, ugh). It almost feels like a Firefly costume.
-Michelle 3: Her coat with all the stuff on it is pretty cool. It is also a little steampunk.
-All right, we've dragged this out long enough. Let's sum up:
--Michelle: Heidi likes it, it's unusual (that's for damn sure), but it's lacking a color pop. Zac likes it too, it's beautifully made, wearable, and commercial. Even Nina likes it, but thinks she should take some of the accessories off. OMFG MICHELLE HAD HELP WITH HER WOLF PATTERN FROM JOE, HE OF THE CAT SWEATERS. That explains A LOT.
--Daniel: Zac says he's seen it before, especially from Daniel. Nina thinks it's beautifully tailored but not new, and doesn't think it's cohesive. (I don't know why he picked these three looks, since his collection was beautiful and interesting, but these three are not). Heidi is underwhelmed, and said that nothing wowed them. I have to agree, and it makes me sad.
--Patricia: Heidi's favorite piece is the horsehair cape, for some inexplicable reason. She likes the blue dress, and Zac calls the headpiece "Tina Turner smurf" but they don't dislike it. They're mostly concerned with the cohesion (or lack thereof). Nina compared it to Dr. Seuss too, because that's what it is. Thank God for Nina. She says the blue dress is beautiful but she's distracted by the headpiece, and she doesn't like the horsehair on the cape. Zac loves the Dr. Seuss hat, and Nina looks like she wants to punch him.
--Stanley: Heidi doesn't like Stanley's, again saying that it doesn't have enough wow. Zac doesn't like the proportions... And now my TV is going weird again. Nina says it's not modern enough, and rightly points out that the gold dress makes the girl look wide. (I'm frankly surprised that they don't like Stanley's; they ALWAYS like Stanley's). Heidi says it's not hip, and I agree.
-So, Michelle is probably in, and I have no idea who else. Probably Patricia, because they like her weirdness, but I have no idea about the other two. I have this suspicion that Daniel is going to be out. :( :( :(
-Michelle is trying to convince the other three that no one is going to be eliminated, and she could be right, who knows? They've done that before, but I'm pretty sure that they were not impressed enough by Daniel or Stanley to let one of them go.
-The judges still like Michelle's stuff, and Zac has correctly pegged it as steampunk. She needs to edit and work on her styling, but she's definitely in as far as I can tell.
-Patricia needs more focus, but has the most potential. Daniel has drama in some of his looks, and they like the use of stingray, but they're not thrilled by the all black thing. Stanley's stuff is boring and unsexy (DUH) but is cute and could be better with slight alterations.
-GET ON WITH IT. Michelle is in (no surprise), Patricia is also in (called it, and I'm happy for her), and Stanley is in. Oh well Daniel, you made it pretty far! If I have the money and see your name on something, I'll buy it someday. :D He's so happy just to have gotten this far, I just want to hug him. CALL ME, DANIEL.
-Tim: "This was a little stressful." NO SHIT, TIM. Gosh, he looks like he's going to be ill. Tim loves Daniel too! (How can you not? He's saying that hes just going to pick himself up, dust himself off, and keep going. Oh! Maybe he'll show up on All Stars!)
-Finale next week, yay!
Answer to last Thursday's song: Popular, from Wicked. Abby got this one right :D

Date: 2013-04-20 05:11 am (UTC)I was so sad that Daniel was out! He didn't have the most exciting picks for his showing though, so I wasn't surprised. Because they'd been showing so much love for Stanely I didn't think they'd put him out if both he and Daniel were on the chopping block for similar reasons.
I was actually pleasantly surprised by Patricia! I have disliked a lot of her stuff because it's so far out there, but I liked her stuff way more here. The headpiece was kind of insane, but if the crazy has to go somewhere I guess I'd rather it focus somewhere else rather than on the main outfit?
I actually liked the cape, but my mom was/is really into native american stuff (she even married a Blackfoot, sort of briefly lol) so maybe growing up around that kind of stuff all the time makes it more appealing? After it was called hair swatches I had a hard time not seeing hair swatches, so I think I'd need it to be attached differently to like it again. lol

Date: 2013-04-20 07:19 pm (UTC)I did like Patricia's stuff more this time than usual (I even kind of liked the look that Tim called lumberjack-y) but I also had problems with the hair swatch thing. It's not so much that I'm opposed to horsehair altogether, just in that way. And I still don't know anyone who wears capes.
