leia131I know you're all DYING to know what I think of Ariel on Once Upon A Time, so here are some assorted thoughts! I started writing this halfway through the episode, so about half of these were happening in real time, lol.
-I LOVE LOVE LOVE her mermaid outfit, though I wish her hair were redder. Her bra (which I wish I owned) even has the lines going the right way!
-I hope they let Joanna wear an actual fin for some of that. I mean, it's clearly mostly CGI, but if you're gonna play a mermaid the least they can do is let you have a fancy tail!
-There's totally precedent for Ariel/mermaids being able to go on land/get legs at a certain time. Something similar is in the original Little Mermaid fairy tale, so I am down with that plot development.
-Ariel's lines were a little cheesey now and then, especially when addressing Ursula, but for the most part I like what they're doing with her. She's in character, which I was worried about; there's a tendency to make 'curious' and 'slightly naive' into 'stupid' and 'unable to function'... But they didn't!
-My dear sweet child! I just died a little. There was flailing.
-WTF is that accent Regina is trying to do? I think she's trying to sound to like Pat Carroll, and she really should stop, because she can't. No one else tries to sound like the original, and for good reason.
-I HATE Ariel's party dress. (Which, btw, came from where, exactly?) Why is it so short? And why is it that yucky color?
-Eric is spot on, especially his costume, right down to kind of being a goon.
-Mini trident? AMAZING. Also, her tiny bag full of human crap. Beautiful. Perfect.
-Not Ariel related: SO FUCKING GLAD Reggie came to kick Rumple in his mopey ass and get him to do something. The whining alone in the jungle was getting old.
-DINGLEHOPPER FOR THE WIN. (Andrew said, 'DINGLEHOPPER OF JUSTICE!') Because that's how Ariel rolls.
-OH SNAP. I wondered when the 'missing voice' thing was going to come up. Obviously this can only mean one thing: MORE ARIEL.
-I really want the real Ursula to pop up and kick Reggie's ass for 'taking her name in vain' so to speak. OMFG, SHE TOTALLY DID! SHE TOTALLY POPPED UP TO BITCH AT REGGIE!!! I am so good.
-Ooh Ariel is in Neverland! I figured this was a good place to introduce mermaids, given that there are traditionally mermaids in Neverland.
-I totally dig this Ariel/Regina/Rumple/Storybrooke plot; this is the best thing they've done all season. Also, more scenes in Storybrooke, YAY!
-In conclusion, I really REALLY liked this episode (and not just the Ariel parts either! I liked the airing of the secrets! And the stopping of the emo!) but I AM SO EXCITED FOR MORE ARIEL.
Answer to last Sunday's song: Candy, by Mandy Moore. See, because last Sunday's post was about Halloween candy? No? I guess not, since no one got this.

Date: 2013-11-04 03:44 am (UTC)(I drove my mom NUTS about the party dresses. I wondered where they got them, too, since Snow was on the run and Ariel was...well, Ariel. Maybe Snow had party dresses stuffed in her fanny pack lol. And I was a bit put-off that they were short. I want long ball gowns in my fairy tales! And then Ariel was back into her mermaid costume like BAM! It was a little head-spinny. Totally agree about Regina's accent or whatever she was going for there. I know everyone ADORES Lana's acting, but I thought she was really horrible in the scene with the mirror & the guards and the scene as Ursula. Not in a campy horrible way but in a "REALLY??? AND PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT JOSH DALLAS & JARED GILMORE'S ACTING?!?! REALLY?!?!" kind of way.)
