Let's talk about Once Upon A Time, shall we?
I hated the Neverland storyline as much as everybody else (which means it must have been really bad, because I've LOVED Peter Pan in all its other incarnations) and the first episode of the second half of this season wasn't great either. But then I watched the next two episodes in one day, and I am back on the OuaT train!
The Good:
-I like the Wicked Witch storyline, even though I thought at first that I wouldn't. I feel that it works because everyone is acknowledging that this is a story they know, instead of pretending they have no idea who the wicked witch is. Also, one of the main problems with Peter Pan was that the heroes had no hope at all of defeating him, and he was more than capable of just wiping them all off the face of the earth, and yet he never did because...? I honestly still don't know what game he was playing with them, and it made NO DAMN SENSE. The Wicked Witch, (whose name is Zelena, not Elphaba, sadly) on the other hand, seems to have some kind of elaborate, secret plan, and she's not so powerful that I feel like she could (and should) just kill them all and be done with it. I'm intrigued by the mystery, and interested to find out what she's up to.
-Reggie has someone to fight (she's best when she's fighting and not moping) and it's not The Charmings/Emma again. Thank God, because that storyline is old and tired and for a minute I was afraid that they were going there again... But then it was all just a clever ruse and I was pleased.
-The Wicked Witch has sister. Because of course she does. Why wouldn't she?
-RUBY. Ruby had lines and everything! They also showed Dr. Whale and Dr. Hopper and all the other actors who have moved on to other projects, but who they could get back for a scene or two, just to establish that they're still alive. That was necessary and waaaaaay overdue.
-RUMPLE. The biggest reason I started watching this show again after the break was because I wanted to know what was going on with Rumple (obviously he wasn't really dead, come on now) and I wasn't disappointed. He's crazy and amazing and the show really drags without him around. Also, we haven't gotten to see him spinning nearly enough, so that was a nice touch.
-African American Rapunzel. I don't mind when they change up a character's traditional appearance, because it immediately lets you know that this is going to be a different version of this person than you're used to, and there aren't enough non-white people on this show (which I kind of understand, given the source material, but still). I hope she's going to be in more than just that one episode.
-Jennifer Morrison getting to wear a big poofy ballgown. I bet she enjoyed that.
The Bad:
-The Wicked Witch's green makeup. It looks like CRAP and I pretty sure Ve Neill would vote whoever paints her off of Face Off in a heartbeat.
-Hook/Emma. What the hell does he see in her? I don't dislike Emma, but she's CLEARLY hung up on Neal and Hook needs someone a little less goody goody and a lot less emo. I would literally prefer him with anyone else.
-That's honestly all the bad things I can remember. Woo show!
The Hilarious:
-"Almost time for the harvest, and you can't remember the planting. Bad luck, mate." LOL FOREVER.
-Reggie turning the flying monkey into a stuffed toy. I'm pretty sure they don't have those in fairy tale land, which only proves that she's totally capable of bringing them all the comforts of modern times.
I can't wait for next week!
Answer to last Monday's song: Danny Boy.

Date: 2014-03-25 02:37 am (UTC)I'm sure they didn't want to go with Elphaba because it would be too much connected to Wicked rather than The Wizard of Oz which is what they are going for. Baum's got an extensive history for Oz, hopefully they use that.
I'm hoping/expecting that Rapunzel will show up in Storybrook. Maybe they didn't want to play, even more Do I know you stuff.

Date: 2014-03-25 03:05 am (UTC)I realize that Elphaba is probably copywritten, and I didn't really expect it, but I was sort of hoping anyway. Their version of Oz stuff is weirdly based on the movie, but not, because they don't have the rights to that either. :(
Yeah, maybe Rapunzel will show up after everyone knows what happened last year. That would be nice.

Date: 2014-03-25 03:33 am (UTC)Speaking of Whale, I really want to see what happened to him when they went to the Enchanted Forest. Did he go too? How awkward/awesome would that have been.
True, I didn't think of copyright on that. Yeah I don't think Disney is even close to owning the rights to Wizard of Oz, which is why they are probably being limited on that type of stuff.

Date: 2014-03-25 04:51 pm (UTC)I do wonder what happened to Whale, but I doubt they'll ever explain it. They don't seem to care about the details as much as we who watch it do.
