Best Dueler: I almost went with Dumbledore, who famously dueled Grindlewald and also probably a lot of other people, but I finally decided on someone else.

Well, I had to get him in here somewhere, it is his series after all. :D

No, but seriously, we see Harry duel a lot more than anyone else (for obvious reasons) and he's one of the few characters who engages in a real, honest to goodness duel to the death, with bowing and formal rules and everything. And that duel is with Voldemort, making Harry (probably) the only person to ever duel Voldemort and survive. Which, I have to say, makes him a darn good duelist.

He also did all right vs. Draco every time the latter started shit. Which was pretty good, considering that Draco had probably had a lot more practice.

Harry was also elected to teach the DA about dueling, so he must be good enough at it to impart it to other people.

And finally, there was that time that he defeated Voldemort once and for all using Expelliarmus, which, let's be real, is a dueling spell.

Yay Harry! Have I ever mentioned how glad I am that you didn't die?

The Dueling Club scene is one of my favorite scenes…Harry & Draco being sassy (YOU WISH!), Lockhart being incompetent, Snape being 100% done with everything. (About the scene in the movie…I watched CoS last weekend on regular TV and I swear they edited that scene. Doesn't Snape whisper to Draco right before he casts the snake at Harry, thereby HEAVILY IMPLYING that Snape is being a shit and told Draco to cast that spell specifically because it'd show everyone Harry is a Parseltongue? Which in the long run wouldn't make sense for Snape to do…? Or have I been dreaming that since like the movie was released? Or did that happen in the book…? I have GOT to do a reread someday…)

ANYHOO…it always makes me chuckle a bit that such a ~BIG DEAL is made in the 6th book about Harry not being able to cast spells wordlessly, but by DH (and presumably the end of HBP when the Death Eaters invade the school) Harry can and does and it's never mentioned when exactly he learned how to do it. And of course the movies pretty much ALWAYS show him dueling silently, unless of course he's casting Expelliarmus.

Oh man, it's been ages since I've read CoS and even longer since I've seen the movie. I can't remember much about that scene... I actually only have CoS on VHS (LOLOLOLOL) too, so I can't really look into it. I do think a re-read sounds like an excellent idea, however. Maybe for 2015 we can do a HP book club!

Yeah, the movies play fast and loose with everything detailed. I think I just assumed that he mastered it while off stage, so to speak, because we don't see every moment of every class. I'm willing to forgive a lot if things happen off the page.
