Ten days until the wedding, and I have to say that it cannot come soon enough. I am SO DONE with planning and schedules and logistics and changes and everything. I just want to get married and be done with it, which is a sad place for me to have reached.

Anyway, Face Off. Warning, this week's challenge was about snakes, and I've linked to reference pictures. So if you don't like snakes, don't click the links. :)

Something's going on with GI Joe, so the contestants had to make a GI Joe character that was also based on/inspired by/a hybrid with a snake. I confess, I wasn't really paying that much attention to this episode. And I wasn't blown away by anyone's makeup, so maybe they weren't either.

The top looks were Cig, Drew, and Dina.

Cig, Christmas Tree Eyelash Viper (who even knew this was a thing?):

The judges liked this one because it looked the most like an actual action figure, in both color and form, and I agree. It's a shame that you can't see his shoulder armor very well in either of these pictures, because that was definitely the best part of this look. It's an ok makeup, but not my favorite.

Drew, Tiger Rat Snake:

When Drew pitched the idea of doing a guy with body modifications instead of a guy who was also a snake, right up through when this was revealed, I thought for sure the judges would hate it and put him in the bottom. I was wrong. They loved the idea, and how he went against what everyone else was doing, and they put this look in the top.

I kind of love the lip piercings as fangs, but then again I have always been intrigued by lip piercings on men. Also, he looks more than a little like Toad from X-Men.

Dina, Rainbow Boa:

Dina was the winner, and with good reason. This somehow manages to be sexy and badass, but not look cheap. The judges loved the proportions, color, and sculpt, and said it looked the most like an actual GI Joe character. I agree completely, and it was extra nice to see Dina win after last week.

The paint job on this thing is INCREDIBLE. She made the scales by cutting a V in a popsicle stick and pressing it into the clay, which sounds so low tech but worked so well. For winning, she got some big package of GI Joe action figures, which she was planning to share with her boyfriend who apparently has an action figure collection.

The bottom looks were Rachael, Stella and Keaghlan.

Rachael, Green Tree Python:

I really hate this look. The head is too big, the mouth looks weird, I don't understand the stuff running back from the mouth, and the color is too simple and green. The judges didn't like the proportions or the color either.

I mean really, what is this? He looks like he just came home from the dentist (because he has no teeth showing, which bugged me about most of these looks) and is still high on the drugs.

Stella, Hognose Snake:

Oh Stella, I was so afraid you were going to get eliminated twice in a row, but fortunately Keaghlan's snake was worse. This just doesn't look like a snake, which Stella knew from the start. She had so much trouble with her sculpt, but no matter what she did she couldn't make it better.

If you look at the picture of the hognose snake, you can see what she was going for, but it didn't work. The judges also thought the scales on the face looked too much like feathers, and they're not wrong.

Keaghlan, Albino Reticulated Python:

I realize that 'albino' is a hard color to do, but this is waaaaaay too yellow. The judges said the most GI Joe thing about her was the outfit, didn't like the paint job (who does?) and said it didn't look enough like a snake.

When this first came out it unsettled me, but I realized after a while that that was just because she looks like a weird yellow old lady rather than a snake (and the bad wig doesn't help). The judges thought she looked cat-like, and I can see that too. Anyway, Keaghlan was sent home, and I think that was the right decision. I'll miss her, but I won't miss her blue eyebrows.

Next week's challenge is scary clowns. I'm not afraid of clowns, but I'm giving those of you who might be advance warning.
