For this edition of my Face Off recap, even if you don't typically click on these LJ cuts, you should check out Dina's makeup. It's that good.

This week's challenge was to create a god or goddess, holding the severed head of some monster they had fought.

The top looks were Cig and Dina.

Cig, Apollo:

Since Apollo is the god of the sun and also plague (we looked this up, it's legit, even though I'd never heard it before) Cig went with a fiery armour look and a diseased monster head. The judges liked everything except the way his shoulder armour looked like puffy sleeves.

This is a pretty damn cool (though not literally) headpiece. The judges also really liked his paint job.

Dina, Aphrodite:

Dina's look was inspired by Aphrodite's having been born in the sea. I LOVE this makeup, and so did the judges, who said that Dina was the only real top look. For the severed head, because Aphrodite is the goddess of beauty and she wanted to contrast that, Dina went with the ugliest sea creature she could think of, which was the angler fish. It's perfect, and it was eerily realistic.

If you told me that Dina had glued actual seashells to her model's head, I would believe it. But she didn't, she sculpted and painted those things. This look is absolutely flawless.

The bottom looks were George and Sasha.

George, Zeus:

I thought that George didn't do enough creatively with Zeus, since this is very basic and plain. The face is nice, and the judges thought so too, but the armour is really crappy (it was, accurately, likened to saggy man boobs) and they really hated the way he did the facial hair and how the moustache didn't match the beard. The head is meant to be a titan, but no one really talked about it much.

The face is perfect, and I don't think the facial hair is that bad, but I HATED that armor. I was also disappointed that there wasn't a single lightning bolt to be found in this entire look.

Sasha, Athena:

Oh Sasha, from winning to this mess in a single week. Sasha struggled with this challenge right from the start; she couldn't come up with a concept that she liked, started sculpting late, and eventually ended up with this. It's meant to be Athena after having been turned to stone, and being controlled by the head of Medusa (who she helped Perseus kill), but it fails on so many levels. The Medusa head is too fake looking, it really has nothing to do with Athena, it doesn't quite satisfy the challenge, and the judges were displeased with how she looked more like mud or clay than stone.

This poor, lumpy thing. :( Sasha was eliminated over this, for real this time, which made me sad because I like her. On the other hand, she's clearly not on the same level as, say, Dina, and since there's only six people left, it was time. But I'll still miss her!
