Oct. 27th, 2014 04:56 pmSo, Project Runway had their finale on Thursday. Let's see how that went.
My top two picks to win were Kini, because he's immensely talented and hands down the best at construction, and Amanda, just because I like her and since this was her second rodeo, I just really wanted it for her. Of those two, I generally prefer Kini's clothes to Amanda's.
It would be awesome if Char won, just to stick it to Korina and everyone else, but I don't think she really has the skills to pay the bills, as they say. Sean was the wild card; he started off the season being in the bottom an awful lot, but he always had very creative ideas and was usually on top towards the end of the season.
Each designer made a 10 look collection; I'm going to post all the looks, but I'm not going to talk at length about every single one because we'd all like this post to be over before tomorrow.
Amanda's Collection:

I really like this look, and just noticed that all Amanda's models are wearing the same shoes...

What does Amanda have against pants that fit? Love this top though.

This looks mismatched to me.

Not sure if this is pants or a skirt, but it's kind of ugly either way.

I think I like this one the best. Also, Amanda designed all the jewelry and had it made, and the judges really liked all of it.
Amanda's collection sure is cohesive, and the judges liked it, but it's really not my cup of tea. I like that geometric diamond print she used, and the jewelry, and most of the colors, but it's all just a little too hobo-chic for me.
Char's Collection:

Tim had encouraged Char not to include this in her collection, but she did anyway. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, and I love the color, but it doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of her looks very well.

This is a fabric Tim convinced Char to buy for some ludicrous price in Rome. I like it, but maybe not that much of it all at once.

The judges loved this, and so do I. Char is best when she stays simple.

Is it wrong that I want those pants?

No, thank you, loofah dress, you can go now.

The judges told Char to infuse more of her personal look into her models' styling, which is why they have the same short hair/big earring combo that she is usually rocking... But there are some things a white girl just looks odd wearing, and this is one of them.

What is the fashion industry's obsession with rompers? Has anyone ever seen a real human woman wearing a romper? How do you pee in that? The judges loved it, of course.

I remember the judges not loving this one, but I kind of want these pants too.
Overall, the judges liked what Char did, but she was never a serious contender for the win. She's still finding her voice and learning to make thinsg well, so I hope to see her come back and win All Stars in a couple of years or so.
Kini's Collection:

Is it just me, or is this model levitating?

The judges went gaga over this look, which is ridiculous because it's the simplest one.

I'm concerned for this model's chestular area, though the clothes and necklace are lovely.

More pants I would like to own.

Flawless.

I feel this look would have been drastically improved if she were wearing a shirt under that coat.

This is the only one of Kini's looks that I absolutely hate. I don't even know how to articulate what's wrong with it, but it's not a good looking dress.

A lot of work clearly went into this.

The judges thought this was too much, but I like it. It makes a strong statement for an end piece.
Overall, the judges acknowledged that Kini can sew the best (how could you not?) but thought that he got too caught up in showing them all the techniques he could execute and didn't edit himself enough. I don't agree. I definitely like Kini's collection the best, though I do wish he had used a little color here and there.
Sean's Collection:

Sean was supposedly inspired by the death of Caesar, but I'm pretty sure he actually made a sleepwear collection.

Pajamas with fringe. Nina said he should have lost the pants here, and I agree. Also, awkward boob darts are awkward.

Sexy pajamas with fringe.

I actually like the fringe skirt, but seriously, AWKWARD BOOB DARTS.

The Caesar influence is strong with this one, though I do like it. Also:

Someone stabbed her in the back, get it?

I'll take that skirt, as long as I don't have to take the top as well.

Does this remind anyone else of the Lorax?

So much fringe in this collection. So much.
Anyway, let's not beat around the bush: Sean won Project Runway, and I can't say that I agree with that decision. I guess the judges thought he had a better vision, was more creative, and was the most true to himself, whatever the fuck that means, but Kini should have won. Sean has satin-y draping and a lot of fringe, whereas Kini can literally make anything and showcased a variety of extremely well done techniques and fabrics. I foresee a Mondo-esque career for Kini, with him coming back and winning some other season, and then PR getting him to be a judge/mentor at every possible opportunity. At least, I hope so.
