Feb. 12th, 2015 01:33 pmY'all, I'm sick again. How did this happen?
This week's challenge was the weirdest I think I've ever seen on this show, and yet it turned out really well. Each pair of designers (they may as well call this season Face Off Teams) had to design a look based purely on a sound. They just heard noise, and made up a whole character based on it. I don't know that showing you the pictures is really going to give you the full experience this week, because seeing some of them move while the inspiration sound played was really astounding.
I am in awe that these people were able to do this AT ALL, nevermind how awesome some of them turned out.
Julian & Ben, heavy breathing and like, a sword sound:

This one worked AMAZINGLY with the sound, it was like you could hear the breathing coming right from his mouth. The model also timed the swing of his giant bladed weapon right with the noise, and the effect was stunning. The concept here was something about this demon dude stealing people's faces, which is why it looks like he has human skin stretched over his red face. Terrifying, but it went together very well with the sound, and both the paint and sculpt are flawless.
Kelly & Stephanie, ticking/clock noises:

Ugh, SyFy, you're killing me with these pictures. This was the winning look, a clockwork woman made by an inventor to replace his dead wife. Great concept, fantastic paint job, excellent aging details. There's even a chunk of her hair broken off. This 100% deserved to win, and I love how the ticking inspired them to do an automoton, rather than some kind of clock creature.
Anthony & Darla, I can't remember the sound but it was creepy and involved lots of voices:

The judges were not so thrilled with how his face looked cat-like (which was not the intent) but they did like the faces on his chest. Glenn was displeased with the chin and how it didn't mesh with the rest of the head, but this look didn't lose.
Adam & Regina, robotic voice saying things like "system armed":

This one was definitely the worst. The face on this is just horrible in every way, with no mouth definition, and it just looks wrinkly and bad. I also don't like that they had a freaking robot voice for their sound, and this is not a robot, a cyborg, nor even a guy with a mask that would require him to talk like one. It's just an alien with a helmet and guns on his arms. The judges did kind of like the chest piece though, which Adam made, so it was Regina who went home over the awful, horrible, face sculpt.
P.S. I put the pictures in bigger this week, so you could see more detail, but of course now the post is stretched out under the cut. Just FYI.

Date: 2015-02-17 03:43 pm (UTC)They could totally make a terrifying movie with clockwork lady and the creepy living doll look from last season. And I would never watch it, but it would be awesome.
