And I still don't have an appropriate icon. Alas.

Anyway, here is my final Face Off post for this season! Who took home the top prize? Was it Emily, Megan's favorite? Darla, Megan's second favorite (since Adam's totally unfair elimination)? Or did Logan pull off the ultimate coup?

First of all, I have to explain the final challenge. They brought back ALL the eliminated contestants from this season to help, instead of just a select few, so you knew it was going to be epic. Each designer had to make four looks, so this post is going to be a bit longer than usual. ETA: Fucking SyFy doesn't have an individual shot of each look, just a crap group shot for each designer. UGH.

Anyway, each of the final three had to pick a mystery movie genre (they turned out to be sci-fi, fantasy, and post-apocalyptic) and then grab random words off a wall and create a title for their movie. They then had to make four characters from said movie, who were all on a team together. And then, the four characters, plus a set, were put on display at Universal for guests to view and vote for. I can't remember who won the fan vote though.

Logan, sci-fi. The Fortress:

Logan's concept was something about animals who had been experimented on traveling the galaxy and preventing the same from happening to anybody else. It was like a whole team of Rocket Racoons, complete with giant rocket. The character on the far left is a neon green skunk, and is one of the better looks of the finale, which is why you can barely see her. The guy in the middle is supposed to be a lizard, but I don't think he really reads that way, the guy with the rocket is an armadillo with very weird teeth, and the girl on the far right is a hammerhead shark. I was not thrilled with any of Logan's looks besides the skunk girl, but the judges liked them all well enough. Still, I never felt during this episode that Logan had a serious shot at winning.

Here's a slightly better picture of the skunk:

I would totally watch a movie with her in it.

Emily, post-apocalyptic. Paradise Reckoning:

Emily was going for an apocalyptic version of The Wizard of Oz, with these four characters who had, due to radiation (maybe?) melded with whatever material they were near with the apocalypse came (from left to right: glass, wood, leather, and metal). The girl is also holding a staff with ruby slippers on top, a touch the people at Universal loved. I really like the look of the girl, and need her in a movie ASAP. However, her look doesn't seem ~fancy~ enough for the Face Off finale, you know? (Though Ve really loved it) The wood guy is well done, but he looks like a less awesome version of Groot. The judges complimented Emily's fabulous paint job on all the looks, and Glenn could not shut up about the glass guy and how great that effect was and how much it really looked like a car windshield. I agree that the glass guy is the best, and I do love Emily, but I'm not sure I get Wizard of Oz from this. And the wood guy feels too natural/out of place with the other three.

Darla, fantasy. The Spirits of Eden:

Darla's concept was something about these four spirits, one for each of the elements, fighting evil in Eden after Adam and Eve had been kicked out. This seemed weird to me at first, but now I kind of dig it. The elements, from left to right, are fire, air, water, and earth. I love how the fire elemental isn't red and orange etc. but grey and black with the fire staff. The judges liked this too, as they (and Darla) realized that it's too hard to make a character look realistically like fire. The water guy is just kind of there (I don't even remember the judges saying anything about him, and I feel meh about him as well) but the sculpt and detail on the earth character are just fabulous. Darla's original idea was a worm wrapped around a tree, which Laura wisely suggest she re-evaluate. The mushrooms really make this look, and the judges were really impressed with the staff too. Then there's the air spirit, who was the standout both on Darla's set and in general. The model was super into her flowy outfit, but it's the AMAZING detail on this look that makes it the best. The idea is that she's part wind instrument, like the Pan pipes she has, so there are holes on her horns and an elaborate set of holes on her chest piece. Glenn said it was his favorite chest piece he's ever seen on Face Off ever, so there's that. (Of course you can see none of this amazing detail in this picture).

So who won?

Darla! Even though Emily was my fav, I have to agree with this decision. Emily faltered now and again, but I don't remember Darla ever being on the bottom. And she has really been stepping up her game these last few weeks, culminating with this spectacular set of characters. She definitely had the best team, and she deserved the win.

(Bless Wikipedia, it informs me that Darla was on the bottom, way back in Week 5. She was on top five times, including two wins. Emily was on the bottom twice, on top six times, including two wins, and Logan was actually never in bottom looks. Huh. He won three times, but was never in top looks besides the times he won. Very interesting.)

Anyway, congratulations Darla!!!

Of course, this also means that Queen Laura won again. :D :D :D
