As stated last week, this is the second to last competition for this season of Face Off. Two designers were eliminated, and the remaining three went on to the finals.

So let's see how it played out!

The challenge this week was to create a creepy, kooky family member, ala The Munsters and The Addams Family, as Michael Westmore did the makeup for The Munsters TV show back in the day. Each designer picked a certain family member archetype to work on.

Top Looks

Ben, Inappropriate Uncle:

This could not have been a better character for Ben, because HE looks like someone's inappropriate uncle. In fact, I'm 99% sure he modeled this guy on himself, especially in the nose and ears. Anyway, the judges loved the texture on the skin, the patchy hair, and the overall skeezy vibe. Even though I don't care for Ben, this is a pretty successful look. (The skeleton is meant to be his late wife, BTW). Also, pretty sure Ben is wearing a shirt with his own (creepy) face on it.

As usual, the model was selling this HARD, but there is a lot of nice detail in the (very realistic) sculpt.

Nora, Black Sheep Cousin:

That's right bitches, Nora is a finalist! Even if she doesn't win, at least she made it this far. Nora went with a 'normal' character being the black sheep in her weird family (like cousin Marilyn) and made a happy, bubbly sheep from a family of Satanists. The judges loved the pink highlights, the sculpt, and the overall idea. They didn't like her hands, but I think they're all right. I especially like the nail polish.

Nora also mentioned trying to make it look as though maybe this girl had cut the smile permanently into her face, and I can totally see that here. The judges did say that her paint could have transitioned better, but she can work on that next week IN THE FINALE. <3 <3 <3

Bottom Looks

Scott, Stern Father:

In my personal opinion, Scott didn't deserve to be on the bottom. In fact, I thought his look was great, but the judges didn't quite agree. I mean, they didn't hate it, but they wanted more contrast in the colors, and wanted him to look more rotted/gross as he was supposed to be the 'Walking Dad' who had had a zombie lobotomy. He does kinda look more like a mummy, but I still dig it.

You know exactly what's up with this dude, even if the lobotomy thing didn't come through very clearly. I really like these colors, and I don't know why the judges didn't. They did like his comb over, however.

Jordan, Spinster Aunt:

I have no idea why she's purple, and the mouth sewn shut (supposedly by the nephew she was babysitting, that little imp thing on her shoulder) didn't quite read properly. Ve somehow loved the color scheme of this, but the sculpt is very close to another look he did earlier in the season, and the judges weren't thrilled with the proportions of this as a whole, nor were they convinced that it fit the challenge. I want to be friends with Jordan IRL, but he's definitely not the strongest designer this season. And this is kind of a very obvious concept. I might have gone with something more... spidery.

My yarn is pasted on, yay.

Evan, Bully Big Brother:

Oh Evan. You made your bully into a bull, because that's never been done before. I absolutely HATE the paint job on this, and I don't understand why the judges liked the bitty horns. I also don't think he even looks that much like a bull, and the red eyes are not doing it for me. Ve also, rightly hated the wig.

Take that ring out of his nose, and he's a straight-up demon. And seriously, what the fuck is up with that paint job?

So who went home? Well, the judges couldn't decide right away, because all the looks had some merit (in their opinions), so they gave Scott, Jordan, and Evan one hour to improve their looks according to the critiques they had just received. I don't think this has been done on Face Off before, but they do it once or twice a season on PR, so.

Here are the before and after shots of the looks following their one hour re-vamp:

Scott tried to add more contrast, change the color palette, and highlight the scar on his forehead.

Jordan added more contrast in his coloring (though I think it was better before) and changed the proportions of the character as a whole (not shown here) by adjusting her wig and adding bubble wrap in strategic places.

Evan ditched the wig (good move) and fixed his paint colors. The judges liked that you can see the ears now, and I do think he at least looks more like a bull now.

In the end, the judges decided that Evan had made the best use of the additional hour, and his look won most improved and earned him a spot in the finale. I don't agree with this, as I think Scott's look was better, and that he's been a stronger competitor overall, but what do I know. I actually haven't agreed with the judges on a lot of things this season, but at least we all wanted to see Nora in the finale.

Rock on!
