Actually, my last post lied. I have some more to say about Fullmetal Alchemist.
Well... It's sort of more general than that, but it's rooted in FMA.
You know what the difference between good characterization and REALLY AWESOME characterization is? Little details. Little details that are totally irrelevant to the plot, but flesh out the character in fun ways. For instance, Edward Elric does not like milk. Does this matter in his quest for the Philosopher's Stone? No. Does it make me want to hug him? Yes.
Also, I like the women in FMA. They're full characters, they don't need protection, and they KICK ASS. Winry, Pinako, Riza, Izumi, Ross, Psiren, Lust, Sloth, they're all awesome. Even the evil ones.
