Monster High Review: Ghouls Rule Clawdeen

Yes, I am making another post, Andrew is at class and I'm trying to entertain myself, deal with it. Also, I didn't want this to go in my last post, but I want it to go up before Halloween. ANYWAY.
Photo heavy post, ahoy!
So, I joined the MH LJ community (where I learned everything I now know about MH) right around the time that the GR dolls were first coming out in stores, and so I hit the tail end of the discussion about whether GR Clawdeen was really great or really awful (no one seems to be in the middle, strangely enough.) Obviously I was in the former camp, or I wouldn't be making this post. :D
Let's take a look at her and see what all the fuss is about:

BOOM BABY. I have to say, I love this doll. I have never seen another doll quite like this one, and as I've said before, what primarily draws me to MH is uniqueness.
GR Clawdeen is like some kind of amazon warrior princess, and I am totally ok with that. She has GIANT FURRY THINGS and RANDOM BODY ARMOR and A LAVENDER MOHAWK. Also, her mask is totally the best of the GR ladies.

Look at that fucking thing! It's a mask, a werewolf transformation (in keeping with the GR theme) and a crown for Clawdeen, Warrior Princess. Plus the handle looks like a crescent moon, and I can get it to stay on her (and look totally badass) with just one tiny plastic tie. Which you can't even see, so pretend I said I can hold it on with MAGIC.
GR Clawdeen's earrings and makeup are also amazing,

This means NOTHING to anyone not in Encore with me, but SHE HAS A BAD STREAK.That may or may not have been the deciding factor in my buying her, shhh. Also, her bad streak is GLITTERY. And I don't know what's going on with her right eye (is is a continuation of her leopard-print theme? Is it supposed to look feathery? Is it meant to be peacock-esque?) but I don't care. I love it.
The leopard-print is also in her jumpsuit (yes, she is wearing a purple jumpsuit with hot green spots and FUR OF DOOM, what of it?) and on the sides of her head.

How amazing is her hair? It's SO LONG, and I love the color (this is one of two Clawdeens I own with purple hair, and this shade is definitely better) and the sides are meant to look shaved, so it's like an uber-long mohawk. With leopard spots on the side. And a braided-ish area in front. Plus, the 'shaved' parts are super soft, and before Venus came out this was the only doll with a hairstyle like this. (Also, the only doll I'd ever seen EVER with hair like this. Why aren't there more dolls with mohawks?)
I think (maybe, I actually have no idea) what puts a lot of people off this doll is her furry accessories. I like them, 1. because they are very VERY unique, 2. because they evoke 'animal' which is what they were going for with this design, as she's meant to be a wolf, and 3. the ones on her legs come off, so you could use them for something else if you really wanted to. (Though they are kind of hard to get back on...But as we all know, I like versatility.)
The leg fur does hide her shoes, but as they're not my favorite MH shoes ever, I don't mind too much.

Meh.
In contrast to the leg fur, the arm fur is sewn on.

This is slightly annoying, as it makes it hard to see her badass hot green gloves, but if you really hated the fur I think you could cut it off and she could rock a sleeveless jumpsuit. I do have to say, however, that it is a PAIN IN THE ASS to get this outfit off Clawdeen, and it doesn't look really great on anyone else. This is the other major reason (the first is concern over the clothing's durability) why I leave my GR girls as is, and just display them on the mantle.
Bottom line: I love this doll. I actually considered cuddling her in bed with me when I first bought her, I like her so much. (I didn't, because I was afraid I would ruin her hair/break her... I mean, because that would be weird for a 25 year old to do. Yes.) But I can see why maybe people would not be as in love with her as I am. This doll also makes good use of Clawdeen's themes of purple (obviously) and fasteners (gold zipper pattern on her jumpsuit, and the shoes and body armor are FULL of buckles.)
Oh, and she came with a trick-or-treat bucket too!

I don't know why it's purple on the bottom, just ignore that. At least this pic came out. Each bucket is customized to the girl it came with, and this one has a wolf skull and little whiskers. I lurve these buckets, seriously. Draculaura's was pink with a vampire skull. :)

Ready to trick AND treat.
Final thought: If Mondo and Gretchen (much as I hate Gretchen) had a baby, and it grew up to design clothes, he/she would totally have designed this jumpsuit. Maybe fur is the baby's thing, I don't know.
Possibly I will get in another GR review tomorrow night, it depends on how many kids come to the door. (Should I be really excited to hand out candy? I don't care, I'm SUPER EXCITED.) But the question is, who do you want to see reviewed next? GR Frankie, Cleo, or Abbey?

Date: 2012-10-31 04:59 pm (UTC)Also, OMG how adorably bedraggled is Clawdeen in your icon?

Date: 2012-10-31 05:16 pm (UTC)I used to have a bedraggled Draculaura icon similar to the Clawdeen one, but decided I needed a Clawdeen icon instead of 2 Draculaura ones...I thought she looked really cute like that :)

Date: 2012-11-01 12:46 am (UTC)I like Clawd, but Holt and Jackson have never appealed to me. I was also lucky enough to get Gil, and he's pretty darn awesome.

Date: 2012-11-01 12:57 am (UTC)I think I'm one of the weird ones: most people I've seen talking about it wanted the Clawd/Draculaura 2-pack for Clawd & I only got it because I *flove* that Draculaura lol. I have never seen a Gil doll in person. I wonder if they'll ever make a Basic of him? (I would love an InvisiBilly doll...and maybe a Heath.)

Date: 2012-11-01 02:12 am (UTC)I really like the Forbitten Love Draculaura, mostly for the heels of her shoes that look like buttons, and the open umbrella; Clawd was just kind of a bonus. I really dig the tuquoise color of his stuff, though, and it was nice (at the time) to get Deuce another boy to hang with.
I would really like to see both a basic Gil and a Holt. (I loved him in the webisode I saw where he went to the dance with Abbey!) The Gil doll is really, really nice and very detailed, and I think Mattel could definitely make major bank if they would just make more of him!
