This review is looooooong overdue, because Dawn of the Dance Clawdeen was one of my earlier doll acquisitions. She was purchased back when I was pretending that I was going to limit myself mostly to new characters, and only buy doubles if the new version was super different than his or her signature doll... Yeah.

Anyway, with that in mind, I was thrilled to see this beauty on the shelf.

Clawdeen's quirk, as revealed in her first journal, is that her hair grows super quickly. This allows her (and Mattel) to try out drastically different hair styles and colors with no (or minimal) harm done. It says on the back of her box that she cut and dyed her hair specifically to match this outfit, which I think it so cool. How awesome would it be to change the length and color of your hair every day, if you so desired?

Anyway, I was attracted to this doll because of her strikingly different look from original Clawdeen, the bright colors, and how Mattel wasn't afraid to go there with the hot green and purple color combination. Clawdeen can totally pull it off, because she's clawsome awesome.

You may also notice that device on Clawdeen's belt, which is her iCoffin. A bunch of the dance themed dolls come with tiny phones, which have their names on them, and really open just like phones with keyboards do. Mattel, I love your attention to detail. (My newest doll, Ghouls Night Out Spectra, came with a touchscreen phone. Mattel has updated the technology of their dolls. That is a thing that happened.)

You could tell me that this was a different character from Clawdeen, like a sister or a cousin, and I would totally believe you. She looks so different!

This was my first doll that had gloves molded onto her hands, which a lot of people find annoying for one reason or another. It doesn't bother me, because MH hands can be switched so easily that if I really want her to wear a bathing suit or pajamas or something, I just swap her hands with another Clawdeen. I have enough of them.

Her hair, besides being a fabulous color and adorable cut, is gelled into a helmet on her head. I'm ok with leaving it like this, even though it doesn't look as fluffy as in her box art and you can't really see the brown underneath, because it's styled perfectly in the front and I think it would lose some of its crispness if I washed it out.

One more detail that I love about this doll is, if you look at the story on the back of the box, Clawdeen says that she got this dress from Draculaura. Look at that collar. Especially look at it when it's popped. It's a vampire collar! This is just the most amazing little detail, and I love it.

So, here's the rundown on my second ever Clawdeen:

Theme: If you recall my review of original Clawdeen, her themes included 'fasteners' and 'purple'. The same is true here, with zippers as the fastener being highlighted.
Evidenced in: Zippers on her dress (and way more than would be necessary to close it, including around the hems), prominently featured on her purse, and (though it's hard to see) there is even zipper detailing on her shiny shoes. (Which I'm assuming is just for show, since I doubt her heels are meant to zip up the front.) Her lips, dress, and phone are purple.
Favorite thing about the doll: Completely unsurprisingly, it's the hair. It's hot green, adorably styled, and seriously Rihanna.
Least favorite thing about the doll: Eh, that yellow eye shadow isn't doing her any favors.
Favorite thing about the outfit/accessories: The neon green tights. They don't really match too much else, but they sure do pop! (Plus, my mother apparently used to wear neon colored tights with her uniform to her Catholic high school, so I think a love of bright tights is in my genes.)
Least favorite thing about the outfit/accessories: Lack of durability. The tights developed holes in both feet very quickly, and whoever designed the placement of the decorative zippers on that dress didn't take her stand into account. The zipper on Clawdeen's right side, visibly fraying in my first picture, is no longer attached to the dress at all, having completely unraveled due to being pushed on by the stand.

Bottom line: This is a great doll, and she really has no major flaws. She looks amazingly different from any other Clawdeen thus far, comes with a cool phone and an interesting story, and is seriously rocking a very bright color palette. Especially if you're planning to just display her (and not obsessively redress her like me) you should have no problems with her... Except for the fact that you'll have to shell out about $70 to get her.

Song quote for today (which is kicking off Musicals Week, btw): I didn't recognize you without the handcuffs.
Answer to last Sunday's song: Oh, there was no song last Sunday.

I love this Clawdeen so much! I think she's my favorite after Scary Tales.

I didn't even know this doll existed when I got it: I started collecting shortly after the Sweet 1600s came out. My local KMart had some older dolls clogging the shelves (including DotD Frankie), but I didn't know that there was a Clawdeen or Draculaura in the line and then my mom got me the 3-pack for Valentine's Day. She'd found it on clearance @ Walmart for $15!!! I immediately proceeded to freak the heck out, to the point where my mom thought she'd done something wrong instead of doing something completely AWESOME lol.

I'm like you RE: her hair. I want it to be fluffier so you can see the brown underneath, but I'm afraid if I wash it, I'll ruin the style of her hair...especially the way her bangs are cut. The color of her hair & her makeup & tights are amazing, too. Is it bad that I throw the iCoffins away? I throw all the tiny accessories away--I keep larger ones like purses and such--unless the accessory is tied to the doll by a rubber band & I happen not to cut that rubber band when I'm deboxing. So basically the only doll who still has her iCoffin is GNO Spectra.

What's there not to love!? She's so damn BRIGHT.

That is a wonderful and hilarious story. My mother kind of rolls her eyes at my doll collecting, but I'm 99% sure that Andrew bought this one for me because he knows how much I love them.

I still have all their tiny accessories, but I can totally understand ditching them. Most of them are just sitting in a box somewhere, being useless, but every once in a while I pose someone with a phone.

I'm going to try to find the conversation we already had about this, but if I can't, you and I need to discuss how to get a wicked kink out of MH hair. I took GNO Spectra's hair down, and I LOVE it, but it's seriously bent from where the hair tie was. I tried hot water, to no effect. :(

My mom was really helpful with my collecting at first. She'd carry a list of dolls I wanted with her when she'd go shopping & pick up any dolls I was looking for. Now, not so much...she rolls her eyes or get outright pissed if I bring one home. If I'm paying the bills & not bankrupting myself, then what's the big deal, y'know? I feel like a kid again...my brother & I conspire to sneak them into the house when she's not looking or not home. Yeesh.

Hmmm, I wonder why that kink didn't come out? (I need to do that to my GNO Spectra, too...and Twyla.) Did you soak it in the hot water for awhile after pouring it over? Either that or using a bit of John Frida to 'weigh' it down a little/smooth it out are the only things I can think of :(

Ooh, no I didn't try soaking, that's going to be my next attempt... probably this weekend when I have more time.

And I spent like half an hour last night fixing 13 Wishes Frankie's hair... Oy. She looks much better now though! (It was partly my fault that it needed fixing, because her crown was on crooked and I messed up her hair in the process of fixing that, but then there were random long hairs in her bangs that needed cutting.)

Sorry I went off on that tangent, but I love having someone to talk MH with!

I would try hanging her head backwards over a bowl and pouring the hot/near-to-boiling water over it until it covers the creased part & leaving it soak for a half-hour to an hour, then combing it out & leaving it to dry flat on a towel (or combing it out & leaving it to dry with her standing up...I've done both). I did that for one of my Frankie's & it worked well. *fingers crossed* it helps you! IDK what it is, but the last bunch of dolls I got (GNO & 13 Wishes) seemed to have soooooooooooo many more rubber bands holding them down. What do they think is going to happen to them in their boxes?!!? I don't know if you've gotten any EAH's yet, but they are 10 times worse to debox. The box itself is a pain in the arse to open, and then you have to deal with all the rubber bands.

(I'm afraid I've ruined my Maddie's hair. It was sooooooooooooo ratted in the back! I'm going to try to do the boiling water soak/John Freida/hanging her to dry upside down since that worked so well for my Ghouls Rule Frankie & the curl in their hair is somewhat similar.)

A lot of my GNO & 13 Wishes dolls had long straggly hairs that hung lower than the rest of their hair & I had to give them trims. I wonder if that is a quality issue now?

No worries! Feel free to tangent all you want when it comes to MH!!! I looooooooooooooooooooove talking about it!!! :D

I'm totally going to try that this weekend, thank you for the advice (again)!

I have a confession to confess to you though... I found all four EAH girls in Justice, and... um, I... I didn't like them. :( Their heads/faces just look so weird to me. I mean, it's good news for my wallet, and I love the animated designs, but I just couldn't feel the love for the dolls.

Now, the clothes on the other hand...

I hope that works out for Spectra!!!

I totally get what you're saying about EAH. They're faces are sooooooooooooo wide & it makes their heads look flat when you look @ them from the side. It took me a bit to get used to Maddie...I was all EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! when I bought her but a bit disappointed after I deboxed her. Luckily, it's going to be very very easy for me to stick to the signatures (and even then, I don't think I'll get them all...I'm not crazy about Apple & I don't like Hunter at all so I'll pass on the 2-pack). It's too bad they don't sell fashion packs! (Yet.)

Randomly, I wish they'd sell MH boy fashion packs. Other than Deuce's casketball uni, of course.

What did you think of the dolls that were revealed @ Comic Con?
